Lowest Milestone for "Success"
Right now, what is the bar you have set for you to feel like this season was a success?

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
At the VERY least we need to make it to the 2nd round. Can’t have a 1 seed lose to an 8 seed. We’ll be the laughing stock of the league.

So hypothetically, if we make the ECF then get swept by Cleveland, you are still good with that?

whether they get swept or lose in its the same result.
yea im fine with that..that was my assessment before this season started. right now i feel like they actually have a shot vs the cavs cause i feel like the deadline trades made the cavs weaker.
with this current core if masai doesnt add a 3rd piece ECF is always gonna be your ceiling.

Your assessment before the season started was that the Raptors would make the ECF?
Just curious...how many wins did you predict?

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
Also...consider this scenario...
We could face the Cavs in the 2nd round. Suppose we do and they beat us, but it's a tough fought 7 game series.
Now we don't make the ECF, we don't beat the Cavs, but we don't get embarrassed either. Doesn't that feel like it would be progress? Even if just incrementally so?

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
To raptors to have a Successful season in my mind is to:
Win a game 1 at home.
Win the first round in under 7 games.
Win the 2nd round in under 7 games.
Compete in the ECF. Win or lose. Show us that we don't shrink in the playoffs. Show me that we play our best win or lose. If we put the max effort and lose it is still a success. Last couple year playoffs we have just scraped by in every single series. No domination ever. Stars need to produce.
Literally the difference is Cleveland vs Boston game the last two days. We looked like scared against Cleveland and then against Boston our Effort was back. We tried. Even though our offense was ****, we tried hard.

.. look competitive in ecf / lebron .... make it look like a close series that could go either way at least 6 games... but no getting blown out

Though there is a part of me that feels like if we sweep our first round opponent, that would be enough.

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
I'm hoping for either:
- A trip to the NBA finals: would mean Demar and Lowry didn't choke, our young players stepped up and we were the first East team to take down Lebron in forever. Huge milestone for our franchise.
- Spectacular failure. A huge upset in the 1st or a total beatdown by the Sixers in the 2nd. Something that gives Masai no choice but to break up our core. If they fail again its time to recognize that this version of the team can't get it done.
Worse thing would be an uninspiring 1st round series win (Pacers, Miami, Bucks) and a noncompetitive 2nd round series vs the Cavs. That would give Masai enough reason to have another go at it.

Let's just play a hard, competitive series against Lebron. That will be a success. Even if it's in the 2nd round.

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
If we get to the finals. If we lose in the ecfs or the second round I consider that a failure. We've been to both places already in the last two years.

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
Make the Eastern Conference finals will be quite a feat
NBA 5 on 8 to get the Raptors will be out in full force for US TV Network NBA business decision making domination
"Yes Sir, Sir!" NBA head office says and starts jumping around before being told to jump, screaming "Raptors we must defeat!"
Worse than small market, much, much worse, for US TV as Toronto is in a different nation.

Re: Lowest Milestone for "Success"
Depends on when we face LeBron
If we go to 7 games against the Cavs and it is a legitimate test for that team, I'll be happy. If that happens in Round 2 or 3, what's the difference?

It doesn’t matter what round it is. The goal is to beat the Cavs. So get that chance.

I actually agree with this.
That's almost why I want to see Washington in the first round, or at least am not worried if they fall. Let's see if we can beat them. If we can't, then we really aren't much of anything.
If we lose to LeBron in 6 or 7, it's hard to really call that a failure. It's just being another victim of his dominance. If we lose to anyone other than LeBron in the East, however, at any round, I won't be satisfied, because we should be favoured over every other team. And it'll leave a sour taste in all of our mouths if that happens even if the season overall was objectively good.
Conversely, if we beat LeBron in the second round, even if we somehow fluke lose in the ECF, it could still be a success, because those days post-beating him would be absolute cloud 9.
