There is a semi shout out in that interview to some posters here. Or at least I am gonna read it that way ;)

NPH reporting that the u16 tryouts started today. No Elijah Fisher is the only other news.

Also news today that Dwight Powell is opting out of his player option. Rumors are that this was intended so he could sign a long term deal with the Mavs. But there is a chance he could be truly testing free agency and could end up on a new team. That would add some risk to him not playing this summer.

Basketball.ca now has the U16 camp invitation list.

http://www.basketball.ca/en/news-article/18-athletes-selected-for-canada-basketball-u16-mens-national-tea

Most of the probables from Hair Canada's prediction from last week are listed - Nembhard, Sharpe, Houston, Boakye, Clayton, Jackson, and Webley (only Fischer and Cross not there).

I have my doubts about the validity of this. I think it's way more likely he's part of group with Rana and whoever else

BUT

I wouldn't be against this at all. I thought he did a really good job in the window he coached last year. Obviously we didnt play great comp in that window, but we'd been struggling coming in to that and he seemed to really steady the ship

Having a guy who exclusively coaches and played FIBA ball is a big plus too imo

Overall, seems pretty reasonable. Most of the interesting prospects are in, though a few notable ones are not. Really wonder why Fisher and Zaiden Cross are not there.

A bit surprised with some of the bigs invited to this camp -- I've had some chances to watch Brody Adams, Luke Hunger, and Caelum Swanton-Rodger, and none of them impressed me, neither right now nor with their long-term potential. Guess they do not all make it to the final roster (maybe none of them does). Or maybe one or two of them has improved or shot in height since I last saw them. But I thought guys like Immanuel Oludele (Alberta) Majambu Mbikay (Quebec), and Rory Stewart (Ontario) looked better. Anyway, I think we should be fine in the frontcourt with Boakye, Webley, Kalambay, and Houstan, with Miller or Hylton maybe getting some minutes a the 4 as well. Would have been very nice to have Fisher as well.

Thon Maker announced he will not play for Australia this summer. He did not play for their 2016 Olympic team but did play some qualifiers (recall the flying drop kicks trying to save his team mates from 10,000 crazed Filipinos)

Australia should be announcing their 18 man roster in a few hours.

Dante Exum, Ryan Brokoeff and Maker all out so far.

Probably can count on:
Bogut
Delladova
ingles
Baynes
Mills
Mitch Creek
Ben Simmons all ready said he is playing. The rest all said they wanted to play.

Jonah Bolden seems a little less likely.
Deng Adel, Issac Humphries, Brock Motum, Jock Landale and anyone else I have no idea about. But seem probable.

Very in-depth take aways from the NBA Combine from Sam_Vecenie on the Athletic. Great stuff on Mfiondu Kabengele, Oshea Brissett and Ignas Brazdeikis.
Some highlights:
Kabengele is vaulting himselft into easyt Top 25 psoition.
Brissset impressed immensely at both combines, Syracuse is a horrible fit for him to show off his skillet and he looks like a probable 2nd rounder (but no sure thing)
And there seems to be a disconnect from Brazdeikis' public statement of his draft position (20-40 range) and reality (35-60 range). He didn't really impress in the combine but will be staying in the draft (rightfully so).

Way more there if you are an Athletic subscriber....they have been pushing out great Canada related content this last year.

That is a very good roster - even with some of the non-participants they have. We will need to have close to our A roster and play close to our A game to handle that squad.

This is interesting. He has FIBA experience but from quite some time ago. Looks like Herbert will be there as an assistant which alleviates that concern.
Surprising, intriguing... kind of cool. I like it.

Without injuries their team should look something like,

PG Mills / Sobey
SG Dellavedova / Goulding
SF Ingles / Creek / Adel
PF Simmons/ Bolden
C Bogut / Motum / Landale

That team is really overrated. So many people saying it's top 2-5 in the world....very overrated.

You are smoking the good stuff now. They crushed their way through the Olympics and got screwed vs Spain for the bronze. Plus they add Simmons plus a few other better players. You don’t even have Baynes on your list above who is likely their starting center.
Starting five is much more likely:
Simmons
Dellavedova
Ingles
Bolden
Baynes

Against the Aussies I think we are stronger in both the 4 and 5 positions, both starting and backups.

They really don't have a big time scorer (the closest would be Mills, if he's hot), we have Murray, Powell and Olynyk that can score in bunches.

IMHO, the chemistry between Murray, Powell and Olynyk will be the key for us in taking them on.

I'll be at both Perth games so it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I thought I read somewhere that Baynes wasn't playing. If he is, OK, so the team should look something like this:

PG Mills / Sobey
SG Dellavedova / Goulding
SF Ingles / Creek
PF Simmons / Motum / Bolden

It's still no way in hell a top 2 to 5 team in the world. Australia's team got super overrated off that last Olympics.... People in this same thread are talking like Lithuania isn't even that good, and I can imagine them with a more athletic and talented roster than that Australian one.

Seriously....

Simmons can't shoot and will be another Giannis / Nick Calathes brick master under FIBA rules....

Dellavedova is about as good Vangelis Mantzaris, Olympiacos' third string point guard....

Motum is very athletic, but he's soft as hell

Bogut is a very good on defense and rebounding, but he can only play like 15 minutes with any effectiveness

Bolden is basically a EuroCup level player - he's very below average for either NBA or EuroLeague standards

Landale is good on offense, but he's horrific on defense

Goulding is a EuroCup level player

Creek is a EuroCup level player

Baynes is a great physical force, but that's pretty much it.

Ingles is a very good player, probably their best player under FIBA rules, but he's not nearly as good as the best players in Europe

Mills is very good on offense and awful on defense, but on offense he's also a huge chucker and very streaky

Sobey is an absolute freak of nature athlete and them some - he's an incredible athlete, and he's quite skilled also. Maybe he will take minutes from Dellavedova, which could help them, but Australia's coaches seem to greatly favor any player that plays in the NBA, whether they are the best player at their spot or not.

All in all.............if Canada needs to be worried about that Australian team, then they have some problems. That Australian team isn't any better than Croatia, which didn't qualify having to go through Europe, instead of the Americas.

Deadline for early entrants to remove themselves from the draft and return to schoolis tomorrow.
Wigginton announced he is staying in today. Shittu announced a couple days ago (along with Iggy, Dort, Brissett, Clarke, NAW, Barrett).

Waiting on Andrew Nembhard and AJ Lawson to announce something (likely that they are returning to school?).

Wigginton did not attend the combine so there is no going back if he is undrafted. Brissett, Shittu, Iggy, Dort etc theoretically could return to school if undrafted.

No word on Kabengele - but as a likely 1st round lock, we can assuming he is staying in.

The in-depth case against Brandon Clarke by Jeremy Woo of SI.com.
https://www.si.com/nba/2019/05/28/nba-draft-2019-lottery-prospects-deandre-hunter-romeo-langford?xid=socialflow_twitter_si&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=thecrossover

He has been constantly down on Clarke as a prospect all season - never moving him beyond mid-20s and most of the season in the 2nd round. I disagree with this assessment - but always interesting to see the counter argument.
