2018-19 Season - Trades & FA Ideas Thread
Lou's one of my favorite Raptors of all time wish he had a longer tenure here in Toronto. The
guy was a 2-time 6th man of the year and really played well while he was here. Just wondering
how Masai didn't keep him, he would of been a valuable piece to the puzzle. I heard he actually
wanted to stay in Toronto too.

Re: Lou Williams?
6 man like Lou Will
2 girls and they get along like I'm Louuuuuuu
Like I'm Lou Will
I just got the new deal
I am in the Matrix and I just took the blue pill
Great song subject. Poor defender. Ball dominant ISO guard. Poor locker room influence, although I’m sure much more entertaining.
Pass.

Re: Lou Williams?
Did you forget how awful he was in the playoffs?
Plus the guy was small and not a good defender. Other than scoring (sometimes he would be streaky as hell) he didnt bring any value. I'd say good thing Masai didnt re-sign him

Re: Lou Williams?
Lou can be fun to watch and cheer for when he's hitting buckets in the regular season, but he's not a player conducive to winning. He's an offensive player who plays little D, and his offensive numbers significantly drop in the playoffs.
This team has championship aspirations. No need to add a guy who will drag this team down in the playoffs.
You don't add him to your team unless you want a tank commander that can get the crowd cheering on occasion.

clippers would want an expiring player. We don’t have one around 8 mil. We could trade JV for Harrell and Williams maybe ... but then you’re giving the Clippers all the space they need to entice Leonard with another max player. Kind of really dangerous.
Simply salary cap is why he’s gone.

Because he took a lot of dumb shots and was a liability defensively.
In case you remember Casey overplayed Lou Will and pretty much let him do whatever he wanted.
We got swept with Lou Will by the Wizards in 2015.
We made it to the conference finals without Lou Will in 2016. Powell and Cory Joseph were upgrades over Lou Will and Vasquez that season because they could actually contribute defensively and did not take ill advised shots.

Re: Lou Williams?
He could put up points in a hurry, but he gave up a lot on the other end. Plus he relied on bad defense to score - reaching, biting on pump fakes, letting him get to his left (he loves to drift back to his left for his jumpshot). Well prepared teams - like the Wiz in the playoffs - made him disappear. Cojo was a big upgrade.

Re: Lou Williams?
Lou doesn't suck but he was redundant with Kyle, DeMar and Greivis around. The four of them dominating the ball and taking turns isolating had become painful to watch after a while, and thus the 2015 Raptors team was my least favorite in this recent era.
I remember reading about Raptors assistant coaches wanting our guards to iso more that year, apparently they ran the numbers and thought that isolation worked well in the play-offs. What they didn't anticipate was the chemistry issues that a guard-dominant, iso-heavy offense brought. None of Lou, DeMar and Greivis were any good at defense, and even Lowry began to regress as the year progressed. Together these four ate up most of the possessions, and our bigs were reduced to garbageman roles (a hallmark of Casey offense). The bigs started getting frustrated since they did most of the work defensively and didn't get any touches at all on the other side of the floor. I'm pretty sure that there were other chemistry issues which we still don't know about. Anyway, it all fell apart in the end.

Re: Lou Williams?
When they added Lou they were going all-in on ISO ball because IBM Watson told them it wins in the playoffs. When they got humbled in the playoffs Masai changed course and went the defensive route. It didn't make sense to double down on the ISO ball and questionable defense even though Lou ultimately didn't command a huge contract. I think Lou actually could have been valuable for the team in 15/16 and 16/17 considering the team brought in some guys who had some defensive ability to surround him. At this point it makes no sense for him though, the team is already deep and the bench mob has formed an identity and play style which is extremely effective. The only way that gets disrupted is a trade for another star level piece.

HUH? have you seen our guard rotation? Who would he get mins over? There's NOBODY on our squad, that id want to give up for, "gimmeTheBallSoIcanShoot-Lou" nobody... I really don't know how you could possibly think he'd be a good piece on our team

I can’t think of another player at that “level” that is more useless in playoff basketball.
75% of his game was built on drawing ticky-tack fouls and the remaining 25% on being featured in a Drake track.
I liked the guy, but no thanks.

Don't need that guy.... I would choose Delon Wright over Lou Williams.

Is there any guys on other training camp rosters that are worth a look?
I know everyones carrying 19-20 players right now so I don't think we should limit our scope to just our invitees.
I would assume we'd be looking at SF, PF, C or combos.
Is there a possibility of getting Alkins back?

Kyle + Norm for..... Butler + Dieng.
We shave a year off of each of Kyle and Norm and get the best player for 1 year, while clearing cap space on the out years.
