Is Fred expecting to start here or get traded?
What do you guys think is his angle here? Does he want to start over Kyle? Does he expect that if things don't work out this year with Kawhi that he'll start during our rebuild? Does he figure he'll be traded or does he want a trade? Is he just cocky and believes he can be Kemba-lite?
I really did not expect to hear this kind of rhetoric from a guy who clearly isn't a starter on a contending team, especially after the way he spoke to the media his first two years here.

"I'd love to stay in Toronto for the rest of my career," he said. "Obviously Kyle [Lowry] can't play forever so hopefully, we milk him for everything he's got and then, once he's done we'll see what happens. I love being in Toronto and I don't want to leave anytime soon."

Did you read the article or were you purposely just trying to stir the pot?

Unless it’s your niche like Lou Will, I’m pretty sure every player wants to be a starter in the league. He’s got a long way to go though.

"Yeah, I'm going to be a starter, it's just a matter of when"
"I'm embracing my role and trying to be the best I can be in that," VanVleet said. "But I'm going to be a starter in this league very, very soon. I prepare like that every day and that's my mindset going forward."
Ridiculous...
If this is what he thinks of himself its no wonder he's playing this selfishly...

When was the last time you heard a player say anything other than, "I want to be in X my whole career"? It's a talking point it doesn't mean anything anymore. Player's play the business game a lot more and a lot better than they used to when they actually answered questions sincerely more often.

Friday Nov 16 against Celtics: VanVleet subbed halfway into overtime, Celtics expand their lead big-time.
Friday Dec 7 against Nets: VanVleet subbed halfway into overtime for JV, Jarrett Allen scores go-ahead basket that ends up being the deciding factor.
Did I mention that Ibaka looked like garbage offensively while coming off the bench last night? Wonder why...

Could he have stated it any more plainly so people wouldn't take it the wrong way?

at least Trashquez gave us Powell and Anunoby, tbh.

I'm pretty sure Fred can fetch us something pretty good if Masai were to dangle him around the League.

And you don't see where he contradicts himself?
"I'm going to be a starter very, very soon" vs "once [Kyle's] done we'll see what happens"
Very, very soon and the season after next when Kyle's deal expires are not compatible timelines. In fact, Kyle and FVV will be UFA that same offseason.

Whatever team he's starting for is heading straight to the lottery

With only 2 years on a reasonable deal I think the Suns would take a look at him to see how he might be able to run their team.
I'd want Ariza back but that would necessitate sending someone like CJ out to a third team because the Suns aren't going to want his salary.
