The last EA Sports NBA game I ever played was NBA Live 2001. The one with Kevin Garnett on the cover.

i played it to the point of mastery, after which I played it even further in franchise mode, in which you could simulate every single game for 25 seasons while managing the roster. I'd analyze every nook and cranny of the league as a GM, dealing my way to multiple dynasties every time.

The Raptors main lineup was remarkably deep:

Mark Jackson / Bogues
Alvin Williams / Mo Pete / Dell Curry
Vince Carter / Tracy Murray
Charles Oakley / Jerome Williams
Antonio Davis / Kevin Willis / Keon Clark

In franchise mode, I'd typically start off by replicating the Mark Jackson + Bogues for Chris Childs deal, and trading off Oakley, and Willis for Jalen Rose and some younger guys who'd develop over a couple of seasons on low salaries.

Guys like:
  • Nazr Mohammed
  • Kurt Thomas
  • Mark Blount
  • Mike Miller
  • Michael Doleac
  • Calvin Booth
  • Tim Thomas
  • Jonathan Bender
  • Chuck Atkins
  • Robert Traylor
  • Zydrunas Ilgauskas
  • Dion Glover
  • Antonio Daniels
  • Derrick Dial
  • Raef LaFrentz
  • Tyronn Lue
  • Hedo Turkoglu
  • Darius Miles
  • Michael Olowokandi

These guys would develop nicely, not into stars, but enough to allow me to improve the team via trades and purchase my way up to dominance within 3 to 4 seasons.

Typically my first major free agent to support Carter would eventually be one of these guys:

  • Jerry Stackhouse,
  • Keith Van Horn
  • Baaron Davis
  • Michael Redd
  • Antawn Jamison
  • Jermaine O'Neal
  • Jason Terry
  • Michael Finley
  • Steve Francis
  • Antonio McDyess
  • Chris Webber
  • Shawn Marion
  • Rashard Lewis
  • Larry Hughes

Happy days.

lol at first i read just rating but then I realized you put speed as well.

HAVE YOU NOT SEEN JV RUN DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE LANE FOR A BUNNY LAYUP TO ONLY MISS THE FIRST ATTEMPT BUT GET HIS OWN REBOUND AND MAKE IT?

I was also big on this game back in the day. Pretty sure there was a mode where you were able to create your own team/franchise. Ah the good ol’ days.

Haven't played any versions later than NBA Live 2001, but it's easily the best version up to that point. I had the PC version. No quirks and no way to cheat your way against playing the PC. You just had to master the fundamentals of posting up, crossovers, building up to an open shot, and manning up on D. The franchise mode was awesome. Few things sweeter in the game than seeing a risky low draft-pick with high potential, develop from a 60 something rating into a 29 year old at 80 something.

Logged some serious hours on this game. It was the closest thing to knowing what being Jerry West must feel like.

Nothing but undying love for this game.

In order for Siakam to get near 90 he needs to develop that consistent jumpshot and be more dominant on the boards. Just being nitpicky and realistic

Is Siakam really better than Blake Griffin or Aldridge?

They are 88's and are also PF's.
