Hard to argue the relationship with the 13 year old when he was 20 was anything but a scumbag move but that story broke 20 years ago when he was still playing.
Bell said he's constantly laughing, talking and texting with Malone "everyday about something." His kids identify Malone's home as "The Big House."
They hunt together and share many of the same interests. In fact, Bell was among the 100 or so invited family, friends and guests at the Legends grand opening, where they interacted like lifelong pals over drinks, cigars and smooth grooves during the all-white-attire affair.
Although things weren't always that way, Bell can certainly pinpoint the switch with his old man.
“He came to the house, we sat down and talked about everything and how it was and put it behind us and we’ve been on an up-and-up ever since," Bell recalled. "The first thing we did was went on a hunting trip to Utah. That was the first thing we did as a father-son around 2014."

This is an old story, I remember this and being shocked about it at first - maybe when Cheryl entered the WNBA. I also remember other NBA players talking about it too and a news report or mini-documentary on it. Someone said it was a transferring of what he went through to his children. His father denied his mother's existence and she raised a tribe of kids on her own and he did the same to his kids, deny their existence.
It's hard to judge without knowing the complete story and the article is not giving a ton of information. More sensationalist. What I remember was it was consensual but underage which is wrong. He was worried the parents were being gold-diggers which the article alludes to also. His perception of the world is sort of warped from his childhood but he was never violent to people. The article discusses little on why he did what he did or it being generational, like having an abusive parent and hitting their own kids. The mini-documentary touched on it and that needs to be understood more. Saying that I never liked Malone as a person even when he was playing. He, like Barkley, seems like a person who is racist against black people. But I do respect his ability to play basketball and I didn't even know he reconciled with all his children which suggests growth. Remember Dr. J did the same thing with his daughter, we can't be selective on who we condemn or even if we have the right to condemn someone else.

None of that matters when you decide to have sex with a 13 year old girl when he was 17+. He should be in jail.

I wish he could face charges for raping that 13 year old girl. The girls family did him a HUGE favour in letting it go - only to see him deny he had anything to do with it.

I thought this was common knowledge, the man was always a scumbag in the league and if he had played in the internet era things probably would have been very different for his career.

I remember when I started high school there were a number of seniors that were all over the freshmen. Many of those girls were still 13 at the time. Some of them even formed serious relationships. I found it disgusting then, I still find it disgusting now.
That being said, in many other countries that age is normal to get married and start a family. Who am I the say who is right. Is it rape if its consenting? Or is it rape because our laws here say so.
Like I said, I find it disgusting. I have a daughter and someone would get their ass whooped if that was my child.
But I'm playing devil's advocate here. The term rape by definition is really about the law, not the act.
