Post#1 » by WuTang_OG » Wed Aug 14, 2019 12:34 am

blogto

@wealthsimple has secured naming rights for a stadium in downtown #Toronto and we’ve got a sneak peek for you. Stay tuned for the official announcement later this week.

Anyone know anything about this?

Random guess, but maybe It'll be an general purpose esports arena and home of the Toronto Defiant of the OWL who are looking for a home in the city.

That would be my guess too and would cater to WealthSimple's core base.

From what I heard their is talk about actually building a Stadium for the Blue Jays at Ontario Place. If that happens, the Skydome/Rogers Center will be no more. Even a chance that it gets torn down and rebuilt into this Stadium, or maybe some Condos.

And who is going to pay for this alleged stadium at Ontario Place? The city? Because it certainly won't be Rogers.

They're going to be at the Dome for decades to come.

What's going on is you're getting lift in the dust, old man.

It's funny to me because people talk like this all the time, completely oblivious to the the fact that they're no doubt echoing a bunch of no fun grumpy out of touch dinosaurs who got all pissy when traditional sports where becoming a major cultural touchstone and driver of wealth and prestige. It's some damn irony that'll get ya right in the balls.

Yeah, I'd say you're probably right. Shapiro has been hinting that whatever is happening with the Dome will likely be tied into the proposed Rail Deck park, and Oxford Centre developments.

Any such "arena" is basically built like a concert venue, but with all the added tech and big screens to accomodate the esports events. Toronto is lacking in a midsize concert venue (say 4-6k people) and the cost of this can be justified for some investor knowing there will be a large number of nights that can be booked for concerts, corporate events, etc..
