With hindsight, in a wierd way, are you kinda glad Colangelo was our GM before Masai?

Colangelo was probably the 3rd best GM or 4th we've had, after Masai, Glen Grunwald, and maybe even Isaiah Thomas.

There is always good in the bad, and bad in the good. This dichotomy of "OH THAT GM SUCKED HES THE WORST EVER BLAH BLAH" is very extreme and not at all comprehensive.

Pros :
- Had a very proffesional demeanor (pre twitter lol), represented us very well, and was in line with the owners. By all accounts Colangelo was a company man and a good one on that side.

2. He had a decent draft record. Was it the best with bustnani? No. But it was good. We're talking DeMar, Jonas (with rumors of us inquiring about Kawhi), and so forth. Tross over Drummond sucked, but we really wanted Barnes.

3. Decent trades and finding some decent guys. TJ ford, Jose Calderon, Kyle Lowry. The guy knew his point guards. He also made some horrific non trades lol especially for Harden.

4. He tried for Free agency. Did he succeed? Hell no. But Masai so far hasn't either (although is impeccable at re-signing our guy).

Ya, people take it to the extreme, as you said there is good and bad. He made solid moves to start which propelled the team into the playoffs with a record number of wins and a team which until we got Gasol last year, had the highest BBIQ on the team ever, though Wayne Embry gave the flexibility.
Even drafting Bargs wasn't a horrible thing at the time, the guy had potential to be a Franchise player, he was just missing the heart, I put the blame on Bargs himself for not having the will to become a great player and not reaching his potential.

Where BC fell apart was trying to do quick fixes and only looking at half the picture with his moves, for instance, losing TJ Ford(F#$% Al Horford), Garbo and Rasho drastically reduced the BBIQ on the team and the ball movement that made them so successful the first year was killed, more so once JO came in. BC and Fans don't realize but the style of basketball on offense that was played that year was really really similar to the style we played the past 2 years, predicated in chemistry, ball movement and taking the best available high percentage shot. That team was actually more of a 50 something win team if they got their stuff together early in the season and Garbo did'nt go down, replaced with Joey Graham who put together the worst playoff performance I have ever seen on the Raptors (so bad his brother and mother called him out). But the personnel that was brought in after took them away from what made them successful.

Grunwald made the same mistakes as well, their best teams had solid reliable vets to solidify the team, and they started to fail when they lost those vets and replaced them with inconsistent, not reliable players.

TJ Ford and BBIQ are two things that don’t go hand in hand.
