He can definitely work himself into a poor mans Amir Johnson role. His post game looks pretty ugly currently though, he has a lot of polishing to do in the 905.

Scoring will be an issue as well. We don’t have a reliable play maker at the 2 or 3 who can create off the dribble. Siakam is going to have to turn into a beast to compensate.

Someone will need to have a surprise breakout season. If Stanley Johnson did it would be perfect since he has the skill set we need but that seems like a long shot. It’s up to OG, I guess, but he’s more of a 3 and D. Expecting more than that is asking a lot.

Nurse is going to have to coach his ass off this year.

Pascal will already be heading for a fast break to the offense end while the ball is in the air. Don't expect many defensive rebounds there.

We need more depth at the 4. No wonder we were reportedly interested in Taj Gibson.

https://www.poundingtherock.com/2018/9/13/17813602/san-antonio-difficulty-understanding-importance-rebounding

The article is written from the Spurs players perspective last year but includes data from all teams for multiple years. I think it is close to reflecting the current general consensus about rebounding in the league and the perspective of Raptors coaches towards rebounding.

For those who don't want to read it, the bottom line is that team rebound matters to winning, but individual rebounding doesn't.

I concur . . . can you imagine caring enough about the Raptors enough, yet being ill informed enough, to write doug smith asking for his basketball expertise?

Rebounding was a problem last year. Half the time we secured a key defensive rebound it was on account of Kawhi, Danny or Kyle.

I don't like the counting math but I scared what we will see when we apply the eye test.

Dean Oliver originally weighed his Four Factors at eFG% (40%), TOV% (25%), OREB% (20%), and FT/FGA (15%). Several regression analyses (sorry, can't find the sources right now) have suggested that the weight given to rebounding is too high, which I agree with.

Nevertheless, I think OG will be able to rebound effectively since the ability to grab contested rebounds is what's really important and OG (35%) was just behind Kawhi (37.6%), who was our best rebounder after Serge last year.

We actually have several guys who are very good at getting contested rebounds even if their total rebound numbers aren't very high. The top rebounders last year and their % contested rebounds were Drummond (48.5%), Embiid (37.7%), DeAndre Jordan (35.6%), Gobert (38.7%), and Capela (44.3%). Compare their numbers to those of guys on our current roster: Ibaka (42.4%) Gasol (41.9%), OG (35%), RHJ (35.2%).

I think we'll be just fine in terms of rebounding. The most important things are our shooting and turnovers, and we have the potential to be very good on those fronts.

To me this is a 905 year for him, but the guy definitely flashes potential, and I think he can be a serviceable for stretches in year 2 and an every night back up by year 3 if he develops the way we are now accustomed to seeing our young fellas develop. Like you said, a bit of an Amir clown with maybe even a little bit more fluidity to his offensive game and the 3 pointer looks to have potential. Not sure about the basketball IQ part where Amir was always underrated or if he can play with same motor. Dude knew exactly where to be on both ends of the court and great finishing ability. I kind of wish we brought him back on a small contract this year.

Sagaba Konate is someone who has the potential to surprise in the rebounding department as his knee injury which kept him out most of last season gets stronger. He also broke West Virginia's all time record for blocked shots which is pretty impressive for his size. He seems to have great instinct out on the court, looks like a really smooth athlete considering his 6'8 250lb frame and can also shoot the three with some great fluidity. He will no doubt start the season with the 905 as he continues to rehab his knee. He certainly seems to have great potential as another one of Massai's undiscovered, undrafted gems. He has only played basketball for 4 years not including last season's write-off so he has come a long way in a very short time.

Move Siakam to SG like Gervin.

That was the Spur's answer. Heck, maybe even guard. That would give us size.

Raptors rebounding is always an issue.
