Fred’s next contract

Post#1 » by Sherlock » Mon Dec 2, 2019 3:30 pm

Just listening to Brian Windhorst’s hoop collective podcast this morning and Bobby Marks says that one team told him that FVV is going to get between $25-30MM!!

Windhorst asks him if it’ll be from the Raps or some other team and Marks answers another team.

Then Windhorst lists off the teams with space this offseason: Charlotte, Cleveland, Memphis and Atlanta.

Charlotte and Cleveland could definitely use an upgrade at point guard.

Happens at about the 39:20 mark of the podcast.

Ujiri: Hey...We're gonna get it. I don't know when it'll be, but we're gonna get it. Just like I said we'll get the first one and I said I didn't know when we'd get it...But we will. Guarantee you we will.

VanVleet Jr going to have some trust fund.

VV went from 15 mill player, to 20+ millon player in a blink of an eye.

Memphis with Ja Morant and Atlanta with Trae aren't looking for PG's. Can anyone really see Fred wanting to be in Charlotte or Cleveland after being part of a quality organization like the Raptors?
Everybody is losing their freaking minds. Nutbars and wingnuts have infested this forum. We've become a public lavatory without cleaning staff.

ATL and MEM seem to be out as Trae Young and Ja Morant are their futures.

Charlotte has Rozier and Graham.
Cleveland seems like the most likely. But their last 2 top picks were also point guards... Sexton and Garland...

Basically, doesn't seem like a good fit for any of these teams...

Charlotte already has Rozier and Devonte Graham while the Cavs have used their past 2 lottery picks on PGs so i doubt either of them would want to pay FVV that kind of money. I'm sure there are other teams who would want his services though.

FVV's next contract is the elephant in the room for this team. No way would i want to pay him anything that is over 20 million per season, let alone 25-30 mill. If we are planning to save cap room for 2021 then this contract could seriously jeopardize all that.

Masai has some serious decisions to make soon (including what to do with Gasol/Ibaka). I would love to bring these 2 back in Lowry type deals so we can actually just try to win this season but not sure if they would want that or prefer something long term. It would suck to lose FVV/Ibaka/Gasol in the offseason and have nothing to show for them.

I was thinking/hoping that 4/75 would do it, but his play without Lowry has definitely taken major steps forward and it's probably going to be $20+ per season for the full 5 years. If some team offers $25 or 30 mil, then you have to shake his hand and thank him and let him go where the money is.

I wonder if we are able to do a bridge deal for one year and than sign him to a multi-year deal the following off-season into the tax (after Giannas... or any UFA we go after)

Though, I do think he may want a bit more contract certainty.

I'm not fully knowledgeable of the CBA so if someone can clarify this it'd be great.

Fred's gonna get paid, probably by Toronto, and the pipe dream of 2021 that some here are so focused on will hopefully die.

Don't think those 4 teams will be interested. All 4 are heavily committed to other pg's.

The real threats are Detroit and the Knicks.

THose 4 teams will not sign him. Its other teams that can clear space with a need for a PG. Knicks are a good example as they have a few players on options.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

can't really work since they would have to pay a lot in a one year deal to make up for the lack of security. Then because you paid so much his cap hold will be really large so you don't have room for a FA unless you renounce.
If you renounce then you can't sign him unless you use cap space that you don't have.

You could do it that way and then re-sign him if you strike out in FA or let him walk if you get a big FA

And Detroit might not have the room depending on what happens with Drummond. Fred will get a big offer but no one is giving him 100M. If he continues performing like this he might get Brogdon money 4/80M+

At this moment, 20 mil per is fair price, definitely cannot do 25 mil.so maybe somewhere between 20-25 mil, closer to 20 the better

With all this 9 figure talk for Fred, that Brogdon contract is looking really nice. He probably would have gotten more this off-season though. Free agent class is WEAK.

I've been a Fred advocate since the beginning and never wavered. I've been warning it will be more than 20 since the offseason.

The answer is, if you have to, you pay 30. Flame me all you want. Fred will ensure a winning franchise as long as he's here. If he leaves...our while future goes up in the air. Including the chance to land Giannis. And noone other than Giannis has even the slightest chance of coming.

Lose Fred....we're heading for the lottery.

It only takes one idiot so who knows, but it doesn’t make a lot of sense for any of the teams with space to tie up max or near max dollars for someone like Fred. What does that do for them, take them from 25 wins to 31?

We also don’t know how the draft will play out. We might find some of these teams opt for lottery PGs which would further diminish Fred’s already lackluster demand.

I do believe that someone will offer him $$ just not what everyone is worried about. As long as we’re close I bet he stays. He’s in line for some nice Canadian sponsorship deals if he does.
