That's ... a point. I'll give you that.

A wild card is the extent to which Masai values the Raptors being "Team Africa". I can certainly see a long-term benefit to the Raptors of having that brand.

We'll see it in how Masai deals with Serge as well. Logic dictates that Serge will be gone by the deadline, assuming he wants a mutli-year deal this summer. But there is an emotional/chemistry/branding aspect to deciding to keep him. OTOH, the sustaining championship franchises are those that don't get too attached to aging players.

You're probably right. But thinking of watching a 7 footer who doesn't play defense and lives largely on threes makes that trade hard to accept.

Get on the plane too, so you still cheer for a good team.

Kat is better no doubt but we would have to add. Also wouldn't it feel a little dirty to trade a homegrown player right after winning a chip? Siakam signed that extension because he wants to continue to win in Toronto. With Towns who knows if he even wants to be here. He could try and force his way out to play with his pal Russell.

Siakam already showed in the biggest moments in the playoffs he is able to put up big time numbers and help a team win a championship....Towns has not even made the playoffs

Masai would only do this if he knew Giannis was coming or something. I agree a trade like that is risky and probably would never happen.

If KAT wants out and lists Toronto as a destination I'd strongly consider it. It may be just enough to entice a certain player to join us in 2021. And that duo would dominate the league.

Bigs that only play 1 side of the ball typically aren't franchise players.

As we've seen in Minny, you'd still need a legit #1 scoring wing to pair with Towns or else you'd still suck.

I can sense loyalty from him, Toronto is like his 2nd home...and he's only going to get better..I think in 2 more years he'll be a superstar.

DD wanted to be here and was loyal to Toronto too.

Masai doesn't care about that though if he thinks a trade will make us better.

KAT for Siakam results in a team with no higher ceiling than presently constructed imo (and more roster imbalance), so I don't know if it necessarily makes sense. If there is a tier 1 superstar that is willing to come here with KAT onboard instead of Pascal, sure (I guess there is also the possibility of convincing two lesser stars like Booker/DLo to come here and form a cabal given their friendship - though I think those three wouldn't necessarily lead to a ton of on-court success). But by itself, it kind of seems like a bit of a lateral move, though i guess KAT is more 'talented'.

Masai isn't heartless, he traded Demar because he was a big reason why Raptors got swept 3 times in 5 playoff runs. Masai won't trade Siakam unless he also develops a history of under-performing in the playoffs & stops playing defense.

No.

I'd rather have a star wing. Siakam is listed as a PF but he's essentially a neo-forward that plays on the wings. If the players are at similar levels, I propose you take the wing player every time. The rare exception are for top 30 all time bigs type players.

A wing for a C? Not a fan of that idea.

Pascal is everything you want in a modern day PF. Why would you trade him for a Center who hasn't proved anything?

More PPG?? .....gtfo

Even if there was a slim chance of this ever being an equal trade, Masai would never.

Yes more points per game, also.... more/better rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, field goal percentage, 3 point percentage, PER, BPM, VORP, etc....

Gobert is a free agent in 2021, probably better off going after him to pair him with Siakam if the Giannis plan doesn't work out.

Gobert needs to be close to the basket but if Giannis of 2 years from now is like he is now...Giannis needs that lane open to do his damage.

KAT would be a better complement.

And one day when Shai Gilgeous Alexander returns home...SGA, KAT and Giannis will look amazing together.

Towns is pretty impressive. Maybe he has a Dirk like career. An offensive big that can shoot like that is bound to do great things some day imo.
