Last year heading into the trade deadline we had a glaring need for size and defense at the Centre position. By trading for Gasol our team defense was transformed in the playoffs.

What are this year's most important position and roles we need to address by trade, in order to push deep into the playoffs/return to the finals?

Let's not turn this thread into another "we need this superstar or that superstar" let's focus on realistic non-superstar targets.

Wing 2/3 all-star

Isolation/break down ability from the wing

A three point trigger man off the bench. Bertans, Redick.

Someone that can score in iso, maybe off the bench. Rose.

In either case in a way that isn’t purely duplicative of norm and TD.

Another big body at the 3/4 who can rebound and help defend some of the star players the team will need to face, and another player who can consistently create his own offence (spark plug type).

3+D back up SF/PF. Someone to soak up more fouls on GA, Simmons, Tatum.

Saying no superstars eliminates any real viable iso threat we could use, so why talk about it.

Another scoring guardnoff the bench like Derrick Rose

Another wing who can defend and rebound like James Johnson

We could use a good ISO scorer, preferably a guy who can shoot. If we're thinking long term, we might want to pick up a big, because both Gasol and Ibaka are free agents this offseason.

Team is really deep, if the Raptors can package some together for a (Borderline) All Star SG/SF, they should heavily consider it.

ISO shot creator for when things slow down in the playoffs. I think the offence is somewhat over-reliant on a transition game that likely won't be as fruitful in the playoffs.

Spot on.

The only position that could use a consistency upgrade is OG, but for a myriad of reasons, that's just not something we'll explore.

All we can do as we cruise to the finish line is hope Pascal can develop a more reliable iso game. That's so we have a plan for late game possessions.

Also Drummond would a nice upgrade over Ibaka

Someone who won't get ignored on offense, and not a major exploit on defense.

Unfortunately that's a star and there's nobody out there that can be had. Rather just stand pat this year tbh

Agree with this!

Our team, chemistry and Def all good. We do need a better wing iso player that won’t kill current start 7 so that means if we want to buy at deadline and make a run we have to trade a few bench guys and future picks which I’m cool with if the player is 26 and under and less not killing cap and we can resign vs the future value of picks. Moving FVV might be part of that if you don’t want to pay him long-term in off season. I could see us then giving MG one big pay year next year but SI a longer contract at same or slightly less to stay and be part of future.
This would give us Two year window at going for another ring.

Anything that forces McCaw out, or never to see minutes again.

What to upgrade? The answer is always more wings. It's the modern NBA after all, wings and skilled guards.

That, and any top 5 players that could end up on the market (good luck).
