We're in need of another scorer/playmaker, but we're not desperate either. Booker's defense is garbage in every sense of the word. Norman Powell has morphed himself into the ideal non star scoring SG. He's good enough for now where we don't have to compromise ourselves to fill this void.

Besides, Booker doesn't come off the books until 2024.

Without another scorer/playmaker, this team will always be a level behind true contenders. If you want a scorer/playmaker who also plays defense there arent many of them out there and those that are around are almost impossible to acquire. Booker's D is no worse than a guy like Beal. If he were to be available at a reasonable price in the future, the Raps should certainly look into it.

yes I would, great pick and roll player, efficient volume scorer, needs to become more deadly from deep, but overall a very good player. I wouldnt mind Rubio also, if FFV leaves, Rubio's defense would be great.

offensive shooting guards are a dime a dozen. Save your money on the few extra points he provides for the other positions.

Yes, I would definitely take a risk on him. He needs a change of scenery and our organization and team is a place that could really get him going.

I think it would come down to how strongly you feel the Raps' team culture can undo the years of Phoenix mismanagement. And, this isn't a knock on Phoenix, the Raps were guilty of this too with Demar and other players before Masai took over. There's just something about good offensive players on bad teams where the team just defaults to trying to hide their defensive weaknesses instead of having them actually make it an area of focus.

I get it that the team wants Booker to focus his energies on his offensive output but young players should learn that there are other ways to affect the game outside of scoring.

Then again, we're seeing a bit of it with Pascal. The team wants him to work out his offense in real time and it feels like he's toned down a bit of his energy on the defensive end.

Short answer - I think we have a solid enough team culture and supporting pieces on the bench that we could deprogram/reprogram Booker.

What a bad comparison, they are not even close to being on the same level.

Ross is a career bench/role player. Booker is basically a perennial all-star level player.

100% yes. I think we can expand this to include trade (instead of just signing him in FA).

I mean, I wouldn't necessarily make an AD like trade for him - he's definitely got his flaws, and I'm not sure if he's a #1 option on a great team or anything.

He's a really good scorer, can handle the ball, and pass. He's brutal defensively, but not as bad as someone like Trae Young (who I'd still take as well).

We've been spoiled the past two seasons having all of our rotation players be good defenders, but I don't know if that's realistic to keep happening in the long run. Most of the elite scorers who will become available probably won't be great defensively.

I think it's always worth getting an all-star in their prime in free agency. In some ways, it's kind of like a free all-star.

I thought I saw a video at the beginning of the year, when Phx was winning, that part of their early success was because Booker was playing defense...if the front office and coaching staff think they can work with that, why not? We've got a bunch of slashers, PnRollers, and they can shoot from outside...but getting a force from the 3 point line (like a Klay or Steph or Beal) that can defend his position is worth while.
Would have to tweak our defensive principles a bit though to compensate for his lack of versatility on that end.
