I know this is off-topic but felt this would be good information given the current global situation.
Joe Rogan's podcast with Micheal Osterholm, who is an expert in infectious diseases, is really good. You guys should check it out

This guy is telling the news that the news stations have been hesitant to air. Justin "no knee jerk reaction" Trudeau would have you believe there's no reason to panic and continue letting everyone into the country everyone's welcome here ffs

The US just banned Europe to USA travel. Canada will likely follow suit I'm guessing

Just run the numbers in your head, I know this guy said 480k deaths, i think?
Say 1/3 of the US gets it. 100 million. 3 percent of that (both are low estimates, possibly) is 300 000 deaths.
Now consider the state of healthcare in the US, and its leadership.
You don't have to understand much to understand this is an incoming catastrophe. If you think my numbers of percentage infected are high, and mortality rate is high, you would be in denial.
The reason I say that, about contraction rate, is that there's nothing stopping the spread now. It is across borders, maybe the Europe ban is smart, but it won't have much impact. Summer isn't going to kill it, again the vaccine is a year out.
The only potential solution is mass lockdown, enforced by gov't. I'm not convinced this US admin possesses that kind of capacity to do that, or effectively.

Knowing Trudeau...he will welcome travel from Europe with open arms...if his history with Trump is any indication.
I didn't have a problem with Trudeau until this coronavirus outbreak...he's showing some serious weakness on this...

got real when he said primary transmission is breathing and stopping it is like trying to stop the wind... all this hand washing hype was just **** to tell the masses

Yeah, like do we (including scientists) even know for sure how this thing gets transmitted? Maybe it's more airborne than we think, for example??

Might wanna check your math again. I'd argue 3% is not really a low estimate though. 0.6% seems to be the number out of South Korea (admittadley with a hight number of unresolved cases) I think that would be the number to use as a low estimate.
People need to get with it though. Social distancing, working from home if possible, cancelling unecessary travel are all things we needed to get on board with yesterday.

Most of the stuff I've seen suggests Droplets. Meaning being around someone who sneezes, coughs, talks etc. Secondary is obviously touching something that someone may have sneezed or coughed on then touching your eyes, nose, mouth etc. Thats why theres such a hand wash/ hand sanitize push.
**** thing is that they didn't believe it to be aerosal, meaning it passes through the air. But there was a study I saw today that suggests it remains aerosol for up to 3 hours. This study was done by spraying the virus into a barrel and then spinning it and seeing how long it stayed in the air in that barrel. I dunno how that translates to real life but I've heard that this could be an issue when intubating patients in the hospital.

The UK is not included in the ban which makes the ban not really a ban because the UK is a hot spot and a high travel destination.

Cliffs to the podcast? TBH I don't think I can handle an hour or truthness concerning the disease.

Take a deep breath...
This will be bad but know how this family behaves from SARS and MERS. Heat will slow it down, it always does to this family. The next couple of months will be tough but safety measures should calm it down eventually. Let the doctors come up with a solution and act on it. Outbreaks are inevitable.

It is not panic, it is following the pattern, and information known.
There is no evidence heat slows it. I think it cannot survive in sunlight, the stuff about heat is not true, as of yet.
If it did, that would be great news. I don't even live in Canada anymore, I'm in a much hotter climate in Asia with this relatively under control. So I'd love for that to be true, but it's not as of yet, I'm aware this has been circulating though.
Which brings me back to the point of governments needing to step in, both with measures and information. If they don't, too much of the population will not cooperate, and there will be too much disinformation resulting in lax behavior in terms of following protocols.

.
This is denial in effect.
https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/#who-03-03-20https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/coronavirus-death-rate/#studyIn his opening remarks at the March 3 media briefing on Covid-19, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:
“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.” [13]
Preliminary study providing a tentative 3% estimate for case fatality rate
A preliminary study published on The Lancet on January 24 [3] provided an early estimation of 3% for the overall case fatality rate. Below we show an extract (highlights added for the relevant data and observations):
Worth repeating, in the USA, 45% of those 45 or older are obese. That number will be even higher in US.

I'm not denying anything. I'm just arguing that using the current estimated mortality rate isn't exactly using a 'low estimate''.

Sorry, I was implying it was, relative to the US population with it's known obesity rates, that's all.

Lol ease up there Chicken Little. 100 million Americans are not getting it. Stop with the nonsense. You have a sardine packed city of 15 million in Wuhan and less than 100k contracted it. And pretty much every Chinese man over 60 smokes and smokes heavily. And the pollution is stifling so the lung capacity of the average Chinese citizen isn’t the greatest. And that was the worst and most virulent strain. I doubt the Chinese could lie and cover up another 4 million cases.

Yeah I am following the pattern as well. I don't think 300K Americans are going to die. Also don't think locking down all of the US is going to do much either because people need things like food and trade and necessities and money. That's why I said take a deep breath. The expert in the video stated closing borders won't do much right now because it's too late - it's here. Even prepared countries like S. Korea got caught.
The stuff about heat is an unknown - it's neither true nor false. Corona virus is a novel disease, we don't know enough about it. We do know it's not spreading rapidly in Africa
https://www.health24.com/Medical/infectious-diseases/News/coronavirus-enigma-experts-ask-why-africa-seems-to-have-few-cases-20200302. We also know that Africa is one of the most well prepared after their dealings with Ebola. Maybe we should all go there?? But still heat was able to stifle the spread of SARS and that the same family. It is something to look out for.
Governments just need to listen to doctors and act on their recommendations. A good leader should exhibit calm and not panic. A good leader should not say we're all going to die, lock yourself in your room for one month. They should put capital to eradicate, establish protocols, prepare doctors and reassure population. The lady said learning from past epidemics why harsh protocols can scare people from doing the right thing.
I went to a Chinese grocery store, for the crazy deals on food because nobody is buying. I went to a pretty empty mall as well where everyone was on edge whenever someone coughed, scattering like rats. I didn't give a shiet BUT I made sure every sanitize station I used it, washed my hands and face numerous times and didn't touch anything I didn't need to. But I didn't eye up everyone from paranoia. We need level-headed people or this virus is going to lead to some preventable deaths, really nasty phobias and a brutal recession.
