Arrest these people.

In Hong Kong, they are giving people who came back from travel a ribbon on their wrist. Any shop see the ribbon can call the police. There were 2 yesterday, one was eating at a restaurant, and the restaurant owner called the police and have his whole store sanitized. The other was asserted on the street by police. They are being charged criminal for endangering the public, I think minimum of 2 years in jail. Taking the ribbon off is also a criminal act, under aged will also be jailed.

I would be fine with special phone tracking software being put on at the border as a temporary measure. ****, Florida is so infected they honestly should have been held at the border for quarantine like they were at Trenton CFB.

death rates require #'s of total people that have or has had it. nobody has those numbers.

for example, cdc says 35 mil people had the flu in 2018/19. of those numbers 490k required hospitalization and 34k of them died. now, the 34k is a huge number, as is the 490k - but when you see 35 mil, you don't shut down countries b/c of it. we don't have that total number therefore we are operating a blindly here. the huge worry at this point is overrun hospitals b/c if everyone is going into critical care at once, then we can't support it - that's the major cause for concern for a new virus since we don't know how our bodies react to it. but overall, we need to test every single person to see if they have it or had it.

there are 60 mil people in italy. they currently have about 64k cases. but the question is exactly how many people got tested?

i think in the US, we should sample a 50k-100k group of people (all ages/sexes/nationalities) to see how many are infected and prorate it (like how nielsen does their tv ratings). pick a part of nyc and just test everyone - symptoms and no symptoms. that would give us a much better picture of how dangerous/widespread this disease really is.

Wow, that's smart. Wouldn't even take that many tests and you could do it in every major city just to get a remotely rough idea of what's going on...

Fat **** chance that's going to happen.

Iceland was doing some random sampling about a week ago... can see some various things on google. I had read somewhere that of the positive samples they found, about half didn't have many or any symptoms.

But seems like they needed to halt it as shipments for supplies are not coming in quick enough.

Wish that, but unfortunately, Canada is not the place where you can build a hospital in 10 days to host these people like some other country. Look at how long it takes for us to build a subway.

China doesn't have hundreds of hockey rinks sitting unused, we do. They will be very good overflow locations to use and as I understand it many are already being prepared.

We won't be doing cremations there like the Chinese were doing in the Wuhan hospital, but since our outbreak isn't centralized in one city, I think they're expecting to handle the added flow with the existing cremation facilities.

Amazon came in clutch today and delivered the toilet paper I ordered a few weeks ago. Should have ordered more, but I should be okay for the next while. Still haven't seen any in stores.

there's STILL a toilet paper shortage? with the limitations set im sure you can grab a pack, and the hoarders have completed their hoarding, unless they are going to grocery stores grabbing every piece while they can.

canadian tire at heartland was selling lots and lots of hand soap if anyone's interested. 2-3 bucks

because of the sanitizer shortage, i carry the soap with me in one of those tiny purel sanitzer bottles if i need to go out. wash my hands with those hockey powerade bottles. works perfectly if anyones interested in trying the method out.

I haven't seen hand sanitizer, and toilet paper is still scarce. Sporadically, there have been recent runs on bananas, eggs, pasta and pasta sauces - I am not sure why someone would hoard eggs (pickling them?) or bananas (drying them?). Otherwise, shelves have been well.stocked.

2 no frills near my house had tp in stock/ costco still out but if you are desperate for it, try rexalls or a shoppers. they are more expensive but they been carrying for a while now and no one bothers to go to small stores. picked up a few disinfects/hand santizers from rexalls, no hassle.

also there is no TP shortage, ppl just buy acting like there is lol

Stores restock regularly on TP, but you need to be there at the right time to snag a pack as they still sell out quickly.

Goggles or fake glasses are easier to find....take a piece of laminate and glue to the frame so when you put it on, your face is covered.

Its not medical, but it is better than nothing if you need it. Other than that, wash your damn hands and dont touch your damn face lol.

I'm surprised people aren't wearing ski goggles and helmets yet. (Though I did see a video of someone wearing a full-out costume to Shoppers...)

its baffling. Yes a medical mask is ideal but they are needed at the front lines. A makeshift mask is better than nothing provided you can clean it and dispose + rebuild other parts (like the paper towel).

For gloves I just use those crap dollar store "winter gloves" (the really thin ones that are better used as a layer to an actual pair of gloves). Again, not ideal, but saves me from touching anything in public and again, easily washed.

Check well.ca early in the morning for sanitizer. They have limited the amount of orders they take a day but you can get 1-2 bottles if you wake up early enough. I have had a couple orders go through around 7am

Not to steer this away off-topic completely, but there's a common element as to why it's taking so long for our subways to be built. The Ford family.

Rob Ford, Doug Ford, and even their father Doug Ford Sr. For reasons only known to them, keep shutting down or delaying the subways from being extended.

The problem is that supply was always low and we never had the manufacturing capacity to meet increased demand. Masks are almost all imported since no one uses them here during regular flu seasons, because the government tells you not to.

Front line staff aren't running out because of the stuff the public bought up. Hospitals and nursing homes and police departments don't buy their stuff at Home Depot and Princess Auto - the stuff made exactly for the public to buy at retail pricing instead of high volume supply chain pricing for those who use them constantly. In a time of shortage they might try, but the shortage exists because of a lack of stocking and preparation and tighter budgets. They shouldn't run out in the first place - that was not the public's fault.

Further, the suppliers are not cutting staff because this is basically peak volume for them right now, taking orders and trying to take care of their health care and first responder customers. A lot of the stocks were actually stolen IN the hospitals by the very same people who are now short, because they wanted to make sure their families had some. Now they're told not to wear them or recycle, because bringing your own would either A) look bad or wasteful or B) look like you had stolen goods

That is not necessarily true. Our distributor of masks sells to hospitals, factories, stores, etc. They have reduced selling to anything other than healthcare, but there were still weeks were people were buying retail in bulk which led to stores buying more stock up than normal and it was taking away from their supply that could have gone to health care. Just because they do not shop at the same store does not mean it does not take from the same distributors stock.

You are right that it isn't the public's fault that the stock is so limited in the first place

Right. The original shortage is the primary issue, we agree, I just don't think that if you look at the volume of materials that went to private buyers that it was really a large chunk of what was taken away from front line workers. I suppose you could say that if a day's worth of supplies was denied to one hospital in every province then that's kind of a lot, but the flipside is that those masks MAY have been used in a manner that prevented the number of infected and reduced the eventual downstream strain on HCP also.

I know you're going to disagree with that point as you have throughout the thread, but every "red dot" earlier in the transmission change stops every multiple of red dots that follow.

I'll try to find the link again, but the Japan study showed that if they had 50% compliance with mask wearing the spread was measurably slowed, and 80% compliance effectively stopped the spread of the contagion. I get that we don't want the general public wearing limited masks right now, but it is absolutely asinine to me that we don't have airline or airport staff wearing them since we know with 100% certainty that this has spread around the world through travel.

People who handle goods in grocery stores should be wearing them also, as they are likely to have highest chance for contact with surface droplets and could then become carriers and spreaders themselves, at the only place where we know every household will be making contact with

PS - if you need masks at the HC facility you are in, please PM me I have spent the last few nights opening access to quantities from overseas and will be bringing as much over as I can afford.

No I don't disagree with you entirely. I'm sure some people were buying a justifiable amount and they needed it do run supplies to family members, etc. and some might even prevented spreadng the virus. But there are others hording which is were likely a good portion of the retail sales were the few weeks before this chaos.

I am in no way saying people shouldn't have masks at home, they should, but I feel it should be a limited amount and to be used in certain situations. I just disagree with their effectiveness in a mass public setting, especially with the idiotic people I have seen wearing them

I would be interested in that study. That is a bold claim considering most Asian countries had high initial spikes of infection rates despite already wearing masks. Most places only decreased the rate of infection after they implemented other protocol

More links through that link also. Obviously going to be mixed information from the various studies, but there is growing info now that the topic is at the forefront and it's being looked at more closely and more frequently.
