We should be doing the absolutely everything in our power to make sure this doesn't transpire.
Even 6 months sounds like an eternity, let alone a year or 2

well thats the given timeframe of the vaccine i believe. if we can continue the the social distancing, the faster it can end. the issue is, still so many ppl arent listening.
I hope ppl see those projections and see why its so important to listen to what the pros are saying.

That's the probable length of time it will take to get a vaccine developed and in use, yeah. The virus won't truly be "over" until that happens, so that's not really a new timeline.

You mean the same pros that were telling us a few weeks ago that we are all 'low' risk and not to worry and then quickly panicked to closed down society? This well deserved lack of trust in our pros combines with the mild symptoms in 99% is exactly why many people refuse to listen. First it was 15 days, now 30 days, soon 18 months.... What is next?
I personally agree we all need to do our part to stop the spread to protect the vulnerable, but both our health officials and political leadership have completely failed people on this issue.
BIG time.

Remember when the “pros” said wearing masks wouldn’t do anything and then completely did a 180 degree turn on that

.
There’s a lot of incompetent people out there.

That doesn't actually make sense. It's true, if we are successful at containing this first wave with social distancing, then the more aggressively we social distance the faster this first wave will pass. But, unless we completely eradicate the virus, it will return whenever we let up on the social distancing. So that means, no, it won't end after strong social distancing - rather the opposite, it will come back again. I have yet to see any plan shared with the public about what we're supposed to do post-social distancing.

To be real, the entire thing seem more intentional then incompetence, our Politicians just say what they are told so I dont fault them for being puppets. That is their job. But the global health 'experts', are complicit in something larger or should be ashamed for their oversight.

The economic implications of this are so scary. I think we're making a mistake trying to freeze the economy in place with the idea that we can just hit the ground running again. It's not going to be the same economy when we come out of this -- not just from a GDP standpoint but how business gets done, sectors of the economy that become more valued / devalued. So basically we're choosing to float a bunch of businesses with finite resources that probably don't stand a chance anyway.
I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be in really tough positions a year from now (or well before then), and we'll be wondering why we wasted so much on only the first few months of this thing without any contemplation on how to transition our economy into a post covid world.

Exactly, its a global purge of those people already weighing down on the healthcare system or a complete global meltdown in our governing bodies. Our elected politicians just read off the script they are given by these governing bodies so who knows? It is all to bizarre wither way
Im just thankful either way kids 0-10 are rarely affected.

OT: but I've especially lost respect for WHO, they totally mismanaged the whole situation, especially telling us that masks were ineffective during the initial phase of this virus spread, and now they are back pedaling on this statement. This misinformation contributed to the spread of the virus. A country like SK had everyone tested, but also wearing masks right from the beginning, and they are doing the best of all countries in containing this virus.

I don't think all bad parts of the response were intentional rather than incompetent. But, for example, the advice on masks clearly was, which is pretty infuriating. Top public health officials are essentially admitting that yes, masks at least offer some protection both for yourself, and to others from yourself, but we were previously lying to everyone because we were worried some people would go out and hoard the medical masks, and/or not follow our social distancing mandates as strongly, if we admitted masks are helpful. That's insanely patronizing, and also very counterproductive on its own terms. Worried about people not following your advice as strongly as you think they should? What better way to accomplish that than by demonstrating your contempt for them by just lying to them, and then admitting it.

Trust nothing.
There is massive money to be made with a vaccine, and massive amounts to be save by shaving off those weighing on our healthcare resources and not producing in society that many claimed would be unaffordable in the coming years with the aging populations.
Clearly this virus was knowingly being let into our country with little concern thru-out January and February, nothing adds up.

both reasonable lmao given the TP fiasco. Masks help, no doubts aobut that but ppl are acting like its the saving grace.they help just like washing hands/disinfecting stuff. if there truly is a shortage which it sppears to be, then 100% should go to front line workers.
also im so confused about the whole expired masks that ontario has. what makes the expired? wouldnt expired masks still be betterthen no mask?

Was it "their" plan to irrevocably damage the economy and destroy big business for years to come too? Seems poorly thought out.

So there are different types of masks, and I don't think medical workers are using the cloth masks you can buy at the drugstore, and yet we were told not to use those either.
But at a higher level, there is a question of whether you think officials should focus on telling the truth to the public, or whether they should tell whatever lies they think will get people to behave in the way they think they should behave. I think the second paradigm is scary even if one assumes the most pure-hearted well-intentioned officials. At a minimum everyone makes mistakes and being open and honest allows that to come to light and be corrected faster. Allowing for even a small amount of possible corruption, or personal power-seeking motives makes this second approach much much worse.
I think we should all be appalled on principle by the idea that these people are doing the right thing by lying to us for own good, it is a very dangerous path.

To those of you saying this virus is an intentional purge of the elderly, ask yourselves why they would shut down the entire planet's economy to save the elderly. If anything, we should be encouraged by a society that protects the old and vulnerable. Everyone here will be old and vulnerable one day.
