And he wasn't guarded by Jaylen Brown. he got shut down by JR smith XD

100%

Demar would be similiarily struggling on Offence vs a team like Boston, while giving us no hope of getting anyone else going. If he was slightly better on offence even if he was much better on offence which I doubt... Siakam is a way better defender and spacer for our other players to have a chance to drive... people are just short sighted in the recent past and frustrated with Siakam's current struggles.

The thing is DeMar never had the luxury of playing with a team this good. Go look at the players he played with here. Would you want any of them on this team?

Derozan would have just wasted everyone's time just like he wasted Lowry's prime. There's no evidence that Derozan from 15/17 would have thrived in whatever system we currently have.

People have really gone on the deep end if they really prefer Demar to Siakam, and I really like Demar during this time here and feel he'd do great with this current squad, especially with him being able to help carry the offensive load with Siakam.

I would take Norman Powell on one good ankle over DeMar

DeMar wouldn't be able to play the kind of defence the Raptors play now. And he's still allergic to taking 3s. He'd also have trouble with Smart, Brown and Tatum defending him.

Raptors would have been better off with 2018 Derozan than current Siakam for this series. Keep in mind we switch and play zone now so Demar wouldn't look nearly as bad as he used to on defense when Casey forced him to chase over screen after screen (his biggest weakness). On offense he'd be a fulcrum to play through.

Edit: worth pointing out that for all the credit Siakam has gotten defensively he was probably our worst defender in game 5. Celtics really took it to him. Thankfully he got to sit the 4th. He was on pace to give up 30 on uber efficiency.

Demar defeated the following “superstars” in his hall of fame run with Toronto: Giannis, Wade, Paul George, Beal, John Wall. That’s better then Siakam has done so far in his first run as the team leader.
2019 Eastern Conference All Stars

Derozan
Lowry
Ibaka
Valanciunas
Van Vleet
Delon Wright
Lebron
Embiid

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

It’s Pascal and it’s not even close.

Y’all are for some reason comparing Pascsl to regular season demae when in reality demar was worse then Siakam on offence and much much worse on defence.

Demar would have been attacked constantly in this series and we would’ve given up 115+ every game.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

This is a brutally wrong take. Demar was one of the worst defensive players in the NBA and he was one of the least efficient playoff performers in the history of basketball.

Odd take.

Siakam has put up .483 TS% in the playoffs this year with a better, more balanced team around him + 4 games against the Nets who were just a flat out terrible team (dont even belong in the playoffs) which should have helped to inflate his stats/efficiency.

I do hope he improves in time but he's been really, really bad so far in the playoffs.

The lesson in all of this should be thats its extremely difficult to be a 1st option against playoff defenses without a legit 2nd option.....instead of trying to digest this lesson, what the fans on this forum like to do is bash one player or another to release their frustration.

It shouldn't be an odd take for anyone who had the depressing task of having to watch DeMar DeRozan play defense in the NBA for nearly a decade. The guy is a complete embarrassment in that regard and held those teams back by his mere presence on the court.

And as bad as Pascal has been offensively this playoff year, that .483 TS% is still better than the .462 and .463 TS% that DeRozan put up in two of those playoff years. Pascal could basically miss every shot he takes (which he has essentially been doing) and he'd still be immensely more valuable than 2015 DeRozan.

So you think he will be better when he doesn't have an extended break at the end of the regular season, travel is a major fatigue issue and you have hostile crowds for him to face off against?

Good luck.

Siakam was +12 in an elimination game vs BOS playing 54 mins

DD was benched against a **** IND Team in a similar situation, but in the 1st round

Never ever compare Pascal to this G Leaguer again

this thread shows the folks that can only evaluate a player based on buckets made. and even then, evaluate that poorly.

Pascal....He may have laid an egg on the offensive end, but his DEFENSE was there when we needed it. What does DeMar do when he gets locked up on the offensive end?

As someone that has liked DeMar a lot in regular seasons his offense in the playoffs was garbage. While also not spacing the floor or playing any sort of Defense whatsoever. This bubble version of Siakam that can't do anything on offense is still more valuable then DeMar chucking long 2s then getting torched by whatever shooter we tried to hide him on.
