Evaluate our core going forward

Post#1 » by DelAbbot » Sat Sep 12, 2020 4:28 am

I believe Masai has always intended for this season to evaluate the current roster for how they will fit into the next championship roster. Early in the season I remember an interview in which Bobby Webster specifically said they wanted to take time to closely evaluate FVV as a starter and point guard - before committing to him as Lowry's replacement.

In this context it makes sense that Masai/Bobby did not add pieces for the playoffs at the trade deadline. They wanted to see exactly how far from true champion contender this group was.

So, how would you evaluate this core?

We need to retain our young talent but on reasonable contracts.

Anything more than 17.5 mill per season for Fred is an overpay.

Ibaka needs to be retained. He is a good starting C in this era. He will be highly sought after so we will have to pay up for at least a 3 year deal.

Gasol only if he accepts a 1 year deal as a backup.
