Im still betting on PSKILLS

Post#1 » by MavCarter » Sat Sep 12, 2020 5:03 am

Dude started playing basketball like 8 years ago and all of a sudden is thrown into the #1 option star role immediately. I dont think people realize how hard it is mentally and physically to go from being a role player for the majority of your short career to a #1 option ball in hands type role. Just like people killed and wanted lowry gone for years after his playoff performances (and now hes one of the most beloved toronto athletes of all time) im still betting on SPICY P

Tim Duncan started basketball at what 16? 17?

This needs to stop as an excuse.

He got paid a max contract and had historically one of the worst performances in NBA playoff history. That isn't even hyperbole. The numbers back it up.

By the time his skills mature, he would be out of his physical, athletic prime and still would be behind the curve on overall Basketball IQ.

This is not a real catch-up game, his age will factor into his agility and strength, his skills improving would offset it, but as an overall basketball player it may not actually be that much better.

Literally 3 years ago he was strictly a rim running big, 2 years ago he was a solid bench player, and now he's an ASG starter with a championship

I'm not worried one bit about Pascal, he's someone who actually has proven he improves every offseason. This was his 1st time being the man on the team

Worst case scenario, he's a proven #2 that we can sell Giannis on.

he needs fundamentals. handling the ball and a jumper. if he wants to age gracefully past his prime and play into his mid to late 30s, he needs to get those skills now.
raf1995 wrote:I just don’t think he has that kind of potential. I think we will regret not trading him for a haul in a few years when he’s a mid-tier starter with nice playmaking and defense and a shaky jumper.

Oh come on, don't do that.

You just said he started 8 years ago playing basketball, and I said for comparison Duncan did late too. This starting late thing as an excuse needs to end, he got paid like a superstar.

I still think Siakam is and will continue to be a good, solid player in this league - however, I'm not convinced you'll ever be able to win anything with him as the #1 option. Then again, I'm not convinced that there are many guys in the league who you could win with as the #1 option outside of the current crop of Lebron and Kawhi.

Tim duncan was a star in college that went on to be the #1 pick. Pascal was a role player that was the 27th pick. TD was the man as soon as he got to SA. Pascal was a bench player that barely got minutes. Pascal isnt half the player duncan is obviously. I dont see why duncan being able to do what he did takes away from the point. Thats like saying everyone whos 5'9 should be able to jump as high as nate robinson. Also you're underestimating the physical and mental learning curve of being a #1 option. Im sure TD got used to it way before he got to the NBA

We had to too many Paskal post ups one on ones in this bubble. He did not trust his ability to finish. He was was off like he was covid burnt out. He will rebound. This will be forgotten. They need to check him out though to make sure he doesn't have some ailment destroying conditioning.

He’s not THIS bad, if you watched him before the bubble. Or definitely before January. He’s regressing physically, and maybe it’s age. Maybe it’s too many minutes/usage. He’s just not as coordinated and consistent out there anymore with the basketball.

I'd go further and say we learned that about Bosh as a 4. Or Blake Griffin. We need a great SG to pair with Fred.

He's not going to wind up as a top 10 player next season but he's definitely a better player than what he's shown in the bubble. Just last playoffs he was able to average more vs Draymond Green and Jonathan Isaac than what he put up against Brown.

He'll use this experience to improve but of course you still have to make a move for another guy to have him back at a more comfortable #2 spot.
