Raptors favorites to re-sign FVV, expected to receive a Brogdon contract

Malcolm Brogdon's contract with the Indiana Pacers is a barometer for what Fred VanVleet could expect to earn this offseason, sources told Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News.
Brogdon signed a four-year, $85 million deal with the Pacers last offseason.
Bondy adds that the Raptors remain the favorites to re-sign VanVleet, though the Pistons, Suns, and Knicks are also interested.
The 26-year-old VanVleet averaged 17.6 points and 6.6 assists last season.
Brogdon's current contract is 4yr/85ml. Which comes out to 21.5mil AAV. I think that's a fair deal for him, though I'm pretty sure Knicks will probably offer more than that.

Seems fair...hope we can resign him for that amount.

Decent. Wonder what that means if the cap declines next year though.

Seems about right and would be a nice payday for Fred. We need a PG to take over as Kyle ages gracefully. I would be nice to have some larger guards though.
I often think back to that Open Gym episode where Kyle is showing off his Philly house. Freddy was in his second year and you could just tell from his reaction that he wanted what Kyle had achieved for his family.
Well done FVV! Of course we wait until it's signed and delivered.

agent putting expectations out there...if the cap goes down by a significant amount, he should take a cut also though.

Yikes, a little rich for me. But granted the raptors record attracting free agents, this is probably the best we can get lol.

should still be a tradeable contract at that level assuming he can maintain his level of play

Overpaying a little is really overblown when the player is actually good, young, and playing a premium position.
Much easier to get value from that than on the FA market where you're almost always overpaying anyway, often more than a little too.

Are the Knicks crazy enough to give him 25/100? Let’s hope there’s no bidding war here

Brogdon is better than FVV there's no way he thinks he's deserving of the same contract. I am pretty hard with the 17M / year average he is very replacable by Powell, Davis, and if we pick Cassius Winston he could definitely cover the back up spot at 10-15 minutes per game.

masai/bobby and co got some huge decisions to make very shortly.
personally, i'd let him go and go with the young guys.
i really like fred, but there's better uses for that 20+ mill over the next four years.

Not sure how I feel dishing out that much of our cap to a guy that literally **** the bed in the playoffs.
Will he improve ? I dunno. He was out there playing hero ball.
Saw some comparisons statistically to Lillard but..Lillard he is not.

He struggled shooting but overall his numbers certainly don’t qualify as crapping the bed. Maybe you’re thinking of Siakam

Lillard will be making double the Brogdon contract starting at 43M next season and going up to 54M by the end of his contract extension.
If Fred is in any statistical neighbourhood with Lillard, that is a bargain deal.

Whoa where these lillard comparisons coming from lol. I think Fred is pretty much at his ceiling here, and if he can figure out how to draw fouls instead of throwing up weak layup attempts he’ll be a fine third option on offense

Crazy to offer him that deal at this point. How valuable is he if the cap drops significantly in the next year or two? This is just foolish. Irresponsible spending on a mediocre player unless they can deal him soon after.

Short answer: yes.
Long answer: They're the Knicks.

Too much imo, but he's also a safe bet to take over as starting PG when Lowry is done.

I would like him to develop a teardrop floater first

19ppg on 17 shots for both rounds.
47-135 in the Boston series for a whopping 35%. Dont care whatever advanced stats get thrown at me here. When you shoot the ball that much, and fail that many times, you have shat the bed.
And yes, more than one player can **** the bed.
Also in the words of Bargani, its basketball. Not rebound ball. Or PER ball. Or VORP ball.
Lol. Ok. Seriously. That's a lot of money.
