1. another outstanding pick by Raps brain trust. Give us all the overachieving kids that just won't take no for an answer!
2. I came across this hilarious open letter from a WSU fan bitching about how ungrateful Flynn was chasing his NBA dream (see below). Feel free to have a quick laugh.
3. you know someone is really good when people get this salty about it.

Malachi Flynn announced on Twitter that he's leaving Washington State. He offered up a syrupy thanks for everything that omitted the key point: he’s in pursuit of a higher-profile program. Transfers happen, with increasing regularity in college hoops, but Flynn's decision is just plain unsavory.

Here’s why: WSU and Ernie Kent not only took a chance on him when nobody else would, but they gave him the opportunity to learn and grow in real time.

WSU gave him the opportunity to compete on a major stage. Kent provided him the playing time — and the green light — to develop his game. Kent let him handle the ball at crunch time, something no other coach thought he was capable of coming out of high school. In other words, Kent invested heavily in the young man.

Flynn averaged 15.8 points, 4.25 assists and a team-leading 33.4 minutes per game. In other words, the skinny guard nobody wanted in 2016 had truly arrived in 2018.

Sounds promising.

Flynn was given a golden opportunity at Washington State -- and for that every day, two-year investment in him by coaches and support staff, Flynn doesn't repay WSU with gratitude or allegiance. No, he says it’s in “my best interest” to move on.

Mr. Pacific thinks he's hot stuff now that Kent and his staff have developed him into a bona fide major conference player. Mr. Pacific thinks he's too good to see through the commitment he made to help WSU rebuild the program.

Congrats to Malachi on chasing his NBA dream and getting drafted by us! We got ourselves a good one boys.

Players transfer all the time and there’s always going to be some haters. He def made the right choice. They went 30-2 and ended up ranked 6th.

And they were #1 for a good while! Him and Elleby still wouldn't have been close.

Perhaps the year in between schools, he honed his craft.

So you want him to avoid his best interest and work FOR FREE and not have the FREEDOM OF MOVEMENT. Sounds an awful lot like something... can't put my finger on it.

Then they feel they owe him for putting time into developing him? The heck? He put time into himself and he committed and arrived at WSU. He didn't like what he saw and he left.

Shame on you Dan.

I'm all for character guys but he better have some elite skills to back it up. 6'1" guards are a dime a dozen.
While transfers happen all the time and he may have made the best decision for him, he stepped down in conferences big time from PAC-12 to Mountain West. SDS was already near the top of the MWC before he arrived. And while they went 30-2 and were ranked 6th, unranked Utah State knocked them off at the conference tournament.
Listen, I really hope this kid works out but there's a reason he wasn't a lottery pick, so getting overly excited is a bit much. I think there are legit concerns when a guy leaves a power 5 conference to become a big fish in a smaller pond, even though Washington State was horrible at the time.

What did they expect Flynn to do after he was done with college? Not their problem anymore?

Its sounds like indentured servitude, like he had to earn his way out of the program, rather than having free choice of movement.

I agree, he did what was in his best interest and they should be supportive of it rather than batching and moaning after the fact.

Shame on that Dan guy.

Sam Merrill did this.

Utah State isn't terrible. At least they have another NBA prospect in Neemias Queta.

It is absolutely horrible that they even make these guys sit out a complete year to transfer. It shows tremendous self-belief and balls to do that when your window to make a mark is so small. Both our picks did this for their junior year. I personally take this as a great sign of their characters.

More prospects should go the G league or overseas route. The college system is setup to exploit guys like Flynn.

Boucher missed a year or two as well though his situation was different. So many of our guys have overcome adversity in some fashion. I agree it's a good sign. The transfer rules are tough. They're trying to protect the schools obv but if a kid puts in two years he should absolutely be able to walk without waiting a year. I get wanting to avoid kids walking off one team and joining another a week later.

Make it half a season maybe at most but a full year is excessive for sure.

I still think college has its place for many of these kids. How is Flynn not a giant success story for NCAA? As the (misguided) writer/fan said, Flynn improved tremendously in two years getting to work through his mistakes in Wash. Was that opportunity available to him in the g league or overseas?

RJ Hampton went only a few spots ahead of Flynn. That kid was top 5 coming out of high school. You could argue that had he spent a year or two in college he might've been better protected and turned into a top 5 pick.
