Back on the treadmill

The fact that the Raptors are still Lowry or bust at his age is pathetic and should be called out. We have over 200 mill in cap tied up to 2 floor raisers with zero shot at superstardom. We are entering a worse version of the Lowry/DeRozan era (Lowry being way better than both these dudes being why. Don't delude yourselves into the Giannis pipedream.

This team is a crappy offensive unit that relies on defense who just got worse on both ends (assuming both Marc and Serge are gone). We're probably going to be a top 4 seed as usual but this is an early playoff exit. If Kyle loses a step forget it.

A treadmill that has a max slot open for next year. Right.

All we needed for contention was serge Ibaka? The guy we benched in crunch time when facing elimination?

Enuff respect for serge....but he's not the difference between a treadmill team and a contender.

Kind of sucks that we are a team that is relying on a superstar free agent to save us with no history of ever getting one.

We've been making fun of the Knicks for doing that and here we are banking our entire future on a pipedream.

If Giannis signs the supermax, the treadmill will be official.

It’s not just the Giannis pipe dream - having a max cap spot open gives you a ton of flexibility, especially when you have a decent core to go with it.

Not signing Serge is like the exact opposite of a treadmill. Say we underperform this year.. so we get a higher draft pick in what looks to be a good draft? And then you add a max space to that shortly thereafter.

If you want to complain, at least wait to see what they do with the space. If they give Gordon Hayward $120 million, then make this thread.

Also - we won a championship in 2019. Just throwing that out there.

Yes, were getting Giannis. Great plan.

Imagine losing a superstar, then being one game away from a conference finals, while retaining all our assets moving forward. 90% of the league is on the treadmill, only 1 team wins it every year. I'd guess that 80% of the league would trade our last decade for theirs.

This is more due to the fact that we're still so heavily reliant on Kyle at his age. If Kyle loses a step this is a pretty bad team. I don't think this can be refuted.

In regular season it doesn't matter.

We have a max slot next season. How much farther did u think we were going with Ibaka this year than without?

Assuming relative health for all of the teams in the conference, I don't think we're top 4 in the East. We're likely no better than 5th or possibly 6th if Morey and Rivers can fix things in Philly. Losing Serge is a devastating blow for our offense. Jesus, if we don't re-sign Gasol we could be starting Boucher at the 5 next season. Things could get ugly.

Things are going to be ugly starting Gasol at the 5.
