More teams with cap space next year so he'll have a better chance for desperate teams to offer something big in worst case.

He would've got the same opportunity here IMO had we offered something like 1-year 18M deal and it would've been win-win for both sides. Unfortunate.

Very unfortunate. He he had the opportunity to earn twice as much here and still be able to cash in next year. Who knows, maybe he wanted a bigger stage to showcase himself. Curious move.

If things go bad in ClipperLand and Kawhi bails, he doesn't have to stick around either. The player option was important to him in this scenario.

And then the obvious -- a player option always has inherent upside value and no downside value. If your value is down you opt in, if your value is up you can choose to opt out and cash in.

However, the player option was not something we could offer Ibaka as it potentially eats into 2021 space. We could offer him a team option, with small buyout, but he likely had no interest in that.

But even if they couldn't have offfered him the player option, they could have offered him 1/18. Would have matched LA's offer and left him in the same position it would have had he exercised his player option in LA.

The Clippers are better positioned to win the NBA title in 2021 than we are. It simply came down to that.
And perhaps payment from Ballmer Subsidiary Companies to equalize things.

1. Better chance to win another ring
2. Serge's carrier as a basketball player soon will start to decline, since it's LA, it's a great chance for him to take a shot on his fashion and cooking shows
3. and most important, Masai could of give him similar contract or Sign/Trade deal but obviously there is something happening behind the curtains that we don't know

I am sure Kawhi has been recruiting him since he left. I am sure the same is happening with Lowry.

Ask yourself this:

Why was Miami able to sign M. Leonard and Dragic to 2 year delas with the second year being team
Options and not player options. Why was Masai not able to do the same with Ibaka with all the african connection, winning a championship etc.

After analyzing this if you still think we will sign any significant free agent in 2021, then you are in for a rude awakening.

Don't think we offered that though is what I'm saying, which is why it's unfortunate.

Had we offered that one-year contract, he would've gone for it IMO as it makes way too much economic sense.

Ibaka is a beautiful man.
He can make lots of money in LA for fashion commercials.
We could offer him more cash but not the publicity he can get in LA.

It's not rocket science that he wants to expand his brand, media influence and be involved in the film industry. Where else can you go to mingle with industry leaders? Hollywood Los Angeles California.

No conspiracy.

He wants to compete for a championship and not live out of a hotel in sh*tty facilities.

Simple explanation is:
he went for 2x9.5 guaranteed
we offered 1x12
Maybe he did not want to take the risk of an injury...

We'll be fine he is not a superstar or a recent all-star. Just an above average starter. His spectacular blocks make him more eye pleasing than Gasol's D.

1 year 15 he stays, I think. The flat cap cost us, that and MLSE is pretty hardcore about avoiding the tax this year.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

Can't fault them for that since the team isn't a serious contender this year. Wonder who they had or have in mind using the MLE on.

Boucher and Watson maybe get 4 of it. They maybe only had 5 to offer someone really.
