Crossover Pod: Masai to the Clippers

Post#1 » by MAD ROB » Tue Apr 13, 2021 3:00 pm

FYI, just putting it out there that the latest "rumour" is that if the Clippers poop the bed they might go after Masai. It's close to the end of the pod:

Just listened - it was just pure speculation based on the attractiveness of the LA market + Ballmer's pockets. Of course that would be attractive to ANY basketball executive.

I can't see Masai wanting this if he actually decides to stay in basketball. There was clearly some bad blood with Uncle Dennis and he'd be stepping into a team that's already in ring-chasing mode.

I still think he ends up with Lieweke in Seattle once they get approved for a team (the NHL team starts next year).

lol
would it make sense to anyone that masai forced mlse to sign all his management team and coaching staff only for him to bounce right after?

If masai was leaving, we would need to hire another pres (no, bobby isnt that guy yet - he was re-signed to be the gm... we didnt re-sign him just now to be the president) and with a new guy, they would bring in their own people - thats like every busines not just the nba.

so i dont think hes going anywhere. just pushing for a $12m/yr deal as he likely should get from mlse.

Lock this thread.
Ban the OP.
Smash the server with a mallet.
Pick up the remains.
Stuff them in a trunk of a car.
Send the car flying over a cliff.

JK. Sort of.

Not his own "speculation". He alludes to whispers around the league suggesting that Masai might go to Clippers.

But (a), it's another three or four time zones away from Africa, and (b) I really don't see Masai going to work for Ballmer. Just can't visualize it. And Masai is a scout by training. How much fun would it be not to have much draft capital for the foreseeable future.

But if Ballmer wants to pay him 20 mill/yr, well ... :dontknow:

as a fellow cursed franchise, they find how we broke the hex and finally won a championship to be truly inspirational and a good blueprint to follow.

Like Barkley said

I took that "whispers" part to mean that others think it makes sense, not that there's anything credible to the rumour. I think if it was a legit rumour (i.e. Masai let it slip that he'd be interested), we'd see it amplified via aggregation sources.

I'd be very surprised if Masai has indicated anything about his plans to anybody who'd let it outside his private circle.

Bum ass franchise.

One thing I would say is if they put ownership stake at the table then it’ll be too good to pass up.

I want Masai to stay indefinitely, but the beginning of a rebuild is a decent opportunity for any new Executive to come onboard. We have our picks, we have cap flexibility, we have some of the core of the championship team, and we have some youth. Isn't that the right recipe to leave and let someone new take over?

I am just speculating.

Doesn't make any sense
