The team is not going to get a top 5 pick though. The fans are in la la land thinking that is going to happen.

This is exactly where I’m at. Always has been. Only time I’ve been irritated with the “tank” crowd is when they go out of their way to denigrate people who enjoy watching the team win.

A wins cool, a loss is cool, I’m just here enjoying the moment. I rewatched highlights of our finals run today for this first time since right after it happened. Gave me chills. Incredible I got to experience it.

and why's that?

We are within a game of teams like Washington, Cleveland, OKC all of which we have a MUCH harder remaining schedule then, which could potentially drop us to 6th worse record overall best case scenario..

at which point we have almost as good odds as anyone for top 5!

even if we don't finish that low, the lower the better odds at a higher end prospect.

The alternative? finish 10th and have to first win consecutive games just to get a chance to get beat down In the 1st round, be out of the lottery, lose our chance at a top prospect in a deep draft..

That would literally be a total nightmare outcome and make this horrible season even worse, all because we can't just continue to suck a bit for these last few weeks?

Or they win the play in and put a scare into the 76ers in a 6 gamer series and draft someone at 15 better then the guy drafted at 9 and end the nightmare season with their heads high and pride intact.

It will be hard to drop down to be in a position to get a top 5 pick, and apparently there is not much difference between 6-15, so at this point I dont really care one way or another.

The point is we have zero control over the outcome. We’ve played plenty of trash lineups these last few weeks. Our best players have taken games off without cause. You can’t expect the guys in the court to just “throw” the games. If they win, they win. Allow people that modicum of happiness.

Don't we see a team from 6-11 jump into the top 5 like almost every year?

No ones not allowing people whatever happiness they acquire from these damaging wins, the question was in regards to whether pro-tankers should say screw it for which the answer is no.

It is not about how successful the Raptors would be against the Nets/76ers, It is how successful the Raptors will be in comparison to the 8th-15th in the East.

Why is everyone so stressed out?

We have a great management team. We won a championship recently, something we never thought would happen in our lifetimes. Just enjoy the ride and stop stressing out over each result.

I should have worded the title a little bit differently and asked does a casual still think the Raptors could tank even if they wanted to? They are 7th in the East in point differential and the teams around them are worse then a healthy Raptors team. I know people do not watch bad teams, but yeah hard to out tank trash teams even if you wanted to.

So you don't think Dan Tolzman can draft a good player with a high lotto pick? If so don't, because he's probably the best talent evaluator in the league and he's been the reason we've had so much draft success.

In recent years you have a Devin Booker at 13 or a Donovan Mitchell at 13 or years ago a Giannis Antetokounmpo at 15, Kawhi Leonard at 15 or a Paul George at 10. I trust the Raptors be able to find talent to your point. The team is not a complete dumpster fire like it sounds like many people wish they were. Get ready to draft in this range.

You need to be a lottery team to pick #10 or #13.

In a lost cause season, it's better to have a lottery pick than to not have one.

The higher the pick the better the odds. Exceptions aside that's what the numbers prove. Also 9th place in the draft has a 20 percent chance of going to the top 4, a non lotto pick has zero chance.

The Magic have been in the lottery 6 out of the last 8 years and have never moved up. The odds are that you will not move up obviously.

I havent done the math but quickly scanning the odds.....not moving up 6 years in a row is very, very bad luck. Highly unlikely.

For example...if you placed 8th 4 years in a row than you should get a top 4 pick at least once. I assume they were lower than 8th last in some of those years....so again....very bad luck.

If you go run a lottery simulation with the Raptors where they currently stand (8th).....and run it 6 times....you are almost certain to get a top 4 pick at least once.

#10 and #13 are lottery picks.

Fair point. I think this may be a best case scenario in terms of a realistic range for the Raptors to pick this year if they finished in the lottery.

there's a subtle difference between actively rooting for your team to lose vs being ok with losses.

The team has tried to get better at the center position and while the trade for GTJ was clearly made for the future, it was not a tank move by any means. The team is trying to win. If they wanted to lose they would have just kept playing Baynes.
