They got a solid team, and Trae is playing great in the playoffs. That's all you need to get to the second round. At some point, your secondary scorers are going to have to be great. And that's why it's better to have multiple stars, because guys like Gallo/Bog etc. aren't as good or consistent as true second options.

Once again, a thread title that causes cognitive dissonance. This thread is talking about it, therefore someone is talking about it.

The Hawks still need to add a legit #2 player, like the Mavs. Once the Hawks play the very elite teams, Trae plus a bunch of good players won't be enough. Especially considering they aren't great defensively.

If the Raptors had the Hawks team, everyone would be over the moon.

Since it’s another team, meh, no big deal.

I saw what greatness looked like in 2019.

The Hawks are good, but they still have ways to go before they become great.

Young is a superstar and they have shooters everywhere. I dont think the beat the Sixers as size really does matter and Embiid destroying them in the paint will be more sustainable than the Hawks having a big gap in 3pm like in game 1, but theyre gonna be a team to contend with for a while.

Hawks who poached the GSW front office, are built very similar to the Warriors pre KD. They have a superstar with unlimited range who attracts a lot of gravity and an insane amount of (young) depth and rim protection. They have a ton of flexibility moving forward to get a second star and are ahead of schedule right now.

This is why I hope we are able to draft a dynamic wing or guard to build around

I think the Hawks have more assets to pry away a secondary option than the Mavs do, and that's if one of their young guys like De'Andre Hunter or John Collins no longer works out as a secondary option for them.

I think the Hawks are getting very underrated around here btw. This is their first playoff run with this roster and they're already ahead of schedule. They'll hit a wall sooner or later, but this year is just the beginning for them.

that being said, the hawks have been lucky so far. 1st round was a easy matchup, and game 1 was just a fast start imo.

Philly might also be a good matchup for them. From Noel and Randle to Embiid and Simmons, the 2 teams in the East with big spacing concerns. If they played in the West someone would have probably played Capela off the court by now, like he always was in Houston.

They might be this year's Miami Heat, going on a run from the 5 seed with hot shooting and favorable matchups, and then everyone overrates their ceiling afterwards. No way the Hawks reach the Finals though.

I think the Mavs screwed up by trading Seth Curry for Josh Richardson and Tyler Bey. They needed that reliable 3pt shooting.

The Hawks built through the draft, I wouldn't consider it a blueprint know one is talking about. We have draft advocates all over this forum. John Collins, Trae Young, Camm Reddish, Kevin Huerter, Deandre Hunter, Okongwu, etc.

Having all those rookie scale contracts kept their cap space high and allowed them to acquire talent via trade / free agency, along with some help from a botched Milwaukee S&T for Bogdan. They also didn't overspend on guys like Capela, Gallo, and Bogdanovic, which was important.

I like their team, and I think we need multiple trips to the lotto, along with drafting well outside the lotto, to replicate what they have done. They missed the playoffs for three straight years, and our fans complain after a single playoff miss.

They have a roster that should allow them be a consistent middle to higher seedèd playoff team year after year. But I think their core will look a lot different when they're actually ready to contend for a title.

Bogdanovic is the only one of the Hawks top 6 rotation players to have hit their peak. Young(22) may have another level to get to, Hunter(23), Collins(23) and Heurter(22) can definitely level up. And Capela's only 26....don't think people realize just how young this team's core is. Can't think of another core this young to play this well in a long time....

edit/Have to go back to the 2011-12 OKC Thunder with Russ, KD, Serge and The Beard.

Why Hawks? Why not talk about Jazz for example?

Denver as well. They have a young core that's better than ATL's

Jokic - 26
Murray - 24
MPJ - 22
Gordon - 25

Atl's front office has done a great job.
Just for the hell of it, top 8 in Trae's rookie year vs this years team

Trae Young ----- Trae Young(22)
Kevin Heurter ----- Bogdan Bogdanovic(28)
Taurean Prince ----- De'Andre Hunter(23)
John Collins ------ John Collins(23)
Dewayne Dedmon -- Clint Capela(26)
-------------- ------------
Kent Bazemore ---- Kevin Heurter(22)
Deandre Bembry --- Danilo Gallinari
Alex Len ------- Lou Will/Solomon Hill

Kevin Willis wrote:I like our blueprint of 3+D in every position a lot more. However your observations on Atlanta as a team is spot on. Plus Atlanta got lucky playing a Knick team that can't score with them and a Philly team whose superstars can't really shoot and is not as good as the Jimmy Butler 76ers. Still expect Atlanta to lose though.

3+D players are not effective in the playoffs. You need shot creating to win which is exactly what we had in 2019.

Trae is a superstar they drafted with a top-4 pick. That's a pretty standard blueprint. He doesn't play a lick of defence, but his scoring ability is elite.

People keep saying we’re a superstar away, and then there are teams like the Hawks who are way more equipped to make such a move and not be decimated with what’s left afterwards.

The Hawks are exactly what our fans keep hoping for. They have all the assets in the world, all their pics, a young team, are already a ECF ceiling team.

Why would a team take the Raptors worse offer for a star versus the Hawks better one.

But no let’s shoot down the Hawks even though if the shoe was on the other foot we would be excited for the future.

Love it or hate it but Bogi > Fred and he’s just one of the key guys to their team, not their number two.
