I am expecting there are more new G-League teams, as it is not even 1:1 with the NBA team for development purpose.
The US basketball teams are already congested (with college basketball), it is an interesting approach for having one in Mexico.

If they insist on keeping the ignite team, they should make it an international team. Get the kids used to international travel, constant use of passport, different money.
All the wonderful things that they'll get used to.

If you bring it, they will come"! To steal a line from "field of Dreams" though not exactly word for word.

It's pretty cool that the NBA is using the GLeague to trial different things and I guess the Ignite team has proven a team can be run without an affiliate. I'm just wondering if Mexico City is the right move at this point.

I guess due to travel restrictions they can say that they have a "Mexico City" team without actually being in Mexico City. But, I don't think it'll be a good draw unless they have a "hook".

I'd be more supportive if it was an actual NBA team cause at least there'd be a draw there. But GLeague?

One way they can make it work is if they position it as an anti-Ignite team. Have it for vets that are trying to work their way back into the league. Potentially, there could be some names there that would pull in viewers.

It makes no sense logistically. Due to covid restrictions all their games will be played in the US this year. They also do not have an NBA affiliate team.

The elevation there is 2,000 feet above Denver. Gonna be a huge home court advantage

That's already part of every G-League roster, though. Even the Ignite had Jarrett Jack and Amir Johnson on their team.

Pretty cool, I'm happy for them.

I visited Mexico City on a bachelor party and came away with mixed emotions, but their population alone should help the team succeed there.

Why did you come away with mixed emotions.

Gorgeous city, wild nightlife, good food -

crime and living conditions were abhorrent. Police offers open-carry Uzi's and I'm concerned walking around people that appear to have nothing to lose.

I went with a group of 14 guys that were 28-31yos. I felt strongly that I would go back with my wife, but not alone - at least with another couple. The thought of her going to the bathroom alone is scary and that's without even considering our 9mo.

Cops in Paris have carried Uzi's for 30 years (maybe they levelled up after). Don't let if bother you.
