Lockdown of Raps threads about immunization.

Post#1 » by OAKLEY_2 » Tue Sep 28, 2021 2:14 am

Pretty lame for mods to lock a thread about status of vaccination for Raptor players when the team puts it out as news. There are some really funny posts in there too. What are mods afraid of? Raptors are actually an interesting experiment. Many players were infected with the virus this past bubble and following season and their health this season will show what happens when exposed to the virus combined with being vaccinated. If they stay healthy with no real breakthrough cases it is a good safety message to the public. Cover all bases and brave the storm. If a bunch of them get sick again then we have a major issue with a possible false sense of security surrounding a near hit and miss flu type shot. There's a lot to be learned here. So far places with low vaccination rates seem to be community spreaders for exporting the virus. So bottom line is if this is going to be a taboo discussion then the situation is akin to people saying wife abuse is not important because I want the best competitive advantage for my team and violence is irrelevant. Or, BLM is a distraction and so on. Why censor and sanitize the backstories? For what purpose?

Totally agree. Especially since Covid vaccination is THE issue of 2021, in society at large and in the NBA. Normally, yes, RealGM doesn't want to host flamewars about non-basketball issues except on dedicated forums.

But this is different. And ... there are no games to discuss yet. And ... I'd like to believe that repeated exposure to science, logic and common sense might actually help one or two of the anti-vaxxers (or "my body my choice" advocates) to start to see sweet reason and come over to the communitarian perspective.

The pro-vaxxers are the selfish ones, they don't like to take personal accountability so try to drag everybody else down with them. If you want to take the risk of a rushed vaccine then that's on you. Go knock yourself out, I don't care. Do you see me trying to force you to NOT to get vaccinated? I can try to warn you of the risks but at the end of the day it's your choice not mine.

Same principle should apply with the basketball players. If they want to get vaccinated, good on them if they don't good on them. We don't judge any of them, It seems like only the pro-vaxxers that want to impose their ideologies onto others, as if they have all of the answers. They don't.

Its my body and my choice, I should be aloud to do whatever I want. Even my doctor (chiropractor) and Facebook friends have been telling me that vaccine's aren't effective. I'll keep my freedumbs thank you very much!

Was that thread really locked? So silly

I think sometimes people have a tendency to put their personal beliefs above others and when you give a person the power to reinforce their beliefs, things like this happen. It may annoy them, but you have to think about the majority which a lot of people lack the ability to do.

Moderation should really be about preventing things that would stop people from coming to this board. Not reinforcing ones opinions or emotional response, as that defeats the purpose of a forum to begin with.

Real funny. You know that doctors are mostly bought out by big pharma right? They know all about doling out prescriptions but they actually know very little about preventative medicine; that is exercise, nutrition, mental and spiritual well being.

Mods are in a tough spot especially when so many of you guys derail these threads.

Ya I get it. It becomes a shltshow where people try to reinforce their beliefs through ad-hominem abusive means but it is definitely an issue or people wouldn't participate in them. Given the emotions, it's definitely harder to moderate so I understand not wanting to monitor it which still does not take away from its validity.

This being said, nothing wrong with having a dumping ground thread for all the covid BS.

I can see this point of view as I also get tired of seeing these threads get derailed by the same people having the same old, tired arguments. But at the same time, I think some of the discussions are not too bad and I'm capable of filtering through the garbage like the couple of posts that are already present on this thread. Locking of the threads happens way too frequently IMO. Perhaps having a central thread where people can vent/discuss about this stuff may help. Right here on Raptors board of course rather than some way out there OT board people have to run circles around to find. Give warnings and bans to those who still derail other threads. But then it might be too much grey area and require too much active participation from mods than they'd like. So comes back to sorting through this stuff being tough.

There's a very active Covid thread in the Off Topic Canada forum of realgm that I just discovered. It's a free for all there. Lots of mud slinging, insults and childish antics are rampant. Enjoy!

It's called all of the above, works much better than destroying businesses, locking people down, restricting access to amenities including fitness and recreation, while encouraging people to stay indoors and make cheesecakes.

How about making a greater effort to get to the root cause of virus so that you'd be able to mitigate it properly? Instead, they give the Chinese government a free pass due to political interests. This has never been about the people's health, that's baloney.

Many renown scientists have openly stated that mass vaccination is not the solution, but of course their voices get censored by the mainstream media and big tech.

As proven in under 10 posts in this thread, the conversation about vaccinations will only cause a flame war regardless of what you believe in. This is a basketball forum the mods lock many political topics and flame wars there are many other forums for that stuff. Most people come here for basketball discussion, not a political debate.

What are your medical credentials?

And where are your sources to back up these claims?

A common one that antivaxxers do is to stand with your legs shoulder width apart and bend forward all the way till your head is up your ass. They all do it and swear that it works
