they really push their draft prospects in the workouts and treat it as a job interview. the kids have to be ready to perform and make an impression. leaves me with the impression Suggs waltzed right in there unprepared, thinking it was a done deal when it wasn't even close

I wish they opened up the details even a little, the way they edit these pick "decisions" is always terrible. Masai, "we need a young guy." Webster "Scottie Barnes." 2nd round, "We need workers." "Well, Fred Hoiberg says Dalano is a worker..." It always makes it look like Masai is completely out of the loop and sets the agenda right when the pick is on the clock.

you KNOW that’s gotta be Morey offering Ben Simmons for Siakam, Freddie, OG, 4th pick + 2022 1st

Yup, that was the pick swap offer that was laughed off.

You can already tell that as Scottie gets better he's quickly going to become the face of the franchise.

He just has too infectious of a personality and tbh most guys on the team just don't have that, that it's going to be easy for him to stand out. Almost without doubt (short of catastrophic injury) will go down as an all time favorite Raptor with Lowry by the time it's all said and done. Gonna be a fun time ahead!

Hopefully Johnson and Masai can prove me wrong but I really wish we took BJ instead.

Good video though

Great episode.
The part that stuck out to me the most was the FO drafting Banton because FVV loved him.
They literally drafted Banton because apparently Fred has been marveling over Banton for quite some time now.
This just goes to show how much the Raps value Fred and won't be looking to trade him for years to come.
Fine by me as long as Fred can up his shooting efficiency. If he can shoot at least 42% from the field, he can be one of the best combo guards in the league.

LOL. People should read the entire thread before posting. Fred is not FVV He is Fred Hoiberg, Banton's coach at Nebraska.

Ah that makes sense.
I assumed it was FVV because in the episode you can see Fred join Masai, Bobby, & Nurse for the pre-draft workouts which included Banton.

If we could only have watched the jalen Suggs version of this episode!!! Lol.

Honestly, seeing Scottie and how much he really wanted to come here it was probably a no brainer to pick him over Suggs…..

There was a fun little bit of insight into the kind of player they like when it came to the second round picks. I could be making too much out of one short clip, but I thought the "We want workers" line was very telling. They know that second round picks can't make it on talent alone (or else they would have been picked much earlier), so they target guys that they know are going to put in the work every day to improve their game and get better, much like FVV, Pascal, Norm, etc.

I think that's a very smart way to zero in on second round picks and undrafted guys. Everyone wants to go for the home run picks, but you've got a much greater chance of success with guys who know they aren't good enough yet and are willing to work to get to an NBA level. And I think their success at developing those kinds of players probably proves that theory correct.

They obviously talked about how Nebraska's coaches thought that Dalano is a worker, but I think we can assume that they heard similar things from Louisville about David Johnson. He hasn't shown much yet, but hopefully he's the kind of guy who will just keep improving, and some day justify getting drafted.

That should really put any Simmons "rumours" to rest. He's the opposite of a "worker". A player that hasn't worked on a single dimension of his game since being drafted 5 years ago. He would rather player Call of Duty and hang out with the Karsashians than hit the gym and work on his shot.

I'm not asking for trade secrets. Masai's one of the highest paid executives in the league. I'm sure he has more to add than "we need workers."

All the work and prep done way before. draft day only shows how confident they are in the selection. And i wouldnt give the public much either. We are lucky we get what we get.

I liked when they use to do the inside the draft specials, back in the day, you could actually see them debate players, and certain offers and such coming in. Here it's very tightly narrated/driven viewpoint, have no idea if they debated Suggs or someone else even, or if they were dying to move up. Just make it seem Barnes was the guy, and maybe he was, but there is no frame reference. Like the year when Masai was dying to take Giannis, atleast you saw the thought process.

The only draft specials were way better, but maybe NBA came down on it, or didn't want to come off disssing players. Even in the 2nd round, it would been nice to see which group of players we were thinking on, or their reaction when one of their guys was taken.
