So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I'd like to revisit this now that we know what we have to some extent with Precious/Goran
You see it in every thread: the Raps should've traded Kyle at the deadline last year. We heard Masai stood his ground and refused to deal to Pat Riley & Morey. Many of you were disappointed with the final haul of Precious & Goran + the added flexibility of cap space
The part I'm unclear on (and understanding that rumoured deals are often not true) is what people think was actually offered. What do we think Miami & Philly offered for Kyle at the deadline?
Curious to hear what people think we COULD have gotten back if we dealt earlier

He was a 35 year-old expiring contract. We got a 22 year-old former 20th overall pick for him. I don't think we could have done better than that.

Re: So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
If we traded him to Miami in the season we still were not getting Tyler Herro. So, would you prefer Duncan Robinson? I would not.
Teams that swung and miss on getting to the Finals regretted not trading for Lowry but the best we were doing was Talen Horton-Tucker and junk from the Lakers. We didn't miss out on a franchise altering player and everything needed to happen the way it did for us to have a season leading us to some luck in the lottery and getting Barnes.
I wish we got KZ Okpala in the deal we made but I am not mad at getting Precious despite his struggles. The kicker is not trading Dragic who has likely tanked his value and is buyout fodder now.

We were reportedly not getting THT from the Lakers and Lakers fans spent the lead up to the deadline laughing at Raptors fans for even suggesting it. Which is insane, but here we are.

The one part I didn't expect is Raps tanking Dragic's value. I expected us to play him (if not start him) and ship him to the Mavs for a second rounder & TPE like everyone thought. In the limited minutes we did see him this season, it was clear he still has game left so maybe we felt that was enough
I do kind of respect the Raps saying F that noise and prioritizing player development. I've loved watching Banton and these reps are huge for him moving forward beyond this season

We tried playing him and he didn't play well. Continuing to play him while he played poorly isn't going to help his value.

Personally wish we kept him here. His leadership and playmaking would’ve helped Scottie so much

Re: So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
We sure sure as **** were not offered Achuiwa at the deadline...or the deal could have been done. Kyle's salary would have been slightly higher but they could have ditched Nunn or better yet, make it a four team deal for part of Iggys salary. And then we don't take the option on Dragic in the summer.
The heat ONLY accepted Dragic's option to make this deal possible. Otherwise they walk from him.
So saying that trade was there at the trade deadline is kind of simple and foolish too assume. It presumes the raptors are stupid.

Re: So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
All it took was an expiring and a mid-tier prospect like Precious to make the trade. If that was on the table at the trade deadline, Lowry would have been a Miami Heat last year.
Philly's offer must have been embarrassingly bad if they couldn't top that. Closest thing we've seen what Philly was willing to offer was Morey outsmarting himself by getting George Hill instead.

Mavs are over the cap, there wasn't going to be a TPE. Salary for salary (extra year for powell) is what made it impossible to find a decent deal.

Its so weird that people invest so much time in rumors that we now cite them as facts (see the Maxey narratives).
To answer the question though, we likely will never know, and as such, should not care.

Yeah but, if you don;t treat it as fact, what else are you going to troll about.

not at 3 years 90M.
we'd be in tax hell and not a championship contender with both FVV and Trent as well.
if we kept Lowry and see him to his retirement, would have better to have shipped FVV out for a C. I.e. what Lowry got us.
raf1995 wrote:I just don’t think he has that kind of potential. I think we will regret not trading him for a haul in a few years when he’s a mid-tier starter with nice playmaking and defense and a shaky jumper.

Re: So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
Whether or not we could have got more, nothing significantly better was "reported." Thus, it's going to be almost impossible to argue that there would be better options. Pretty hard to believe if you ask me, but I'm not exactly mad at getting Precious and an ending contract. I would have preferred an ending contract (like Danny Green) LAST YEAR, on top of young players and picks that would be trade assets, but I was also hoping we would make a major push for Lonzo Ball. Assuming we never had a chance, it's not like we had many options with extra cap space anyway.
So as long as Dragic and/or Boucher get traded or re-signed, I will likely be very happy. I'm not optimistic we will replace those guys or improve in free agency next summer, so I would love to lock in a quality player for a contract we would feel much more comfortable paying than whatever Boucher demands.

I would think the Raptors could have gotten some combination of what the Lakers let go this offseason. I'm thinking some trade involving some of Kuzma, KCP, Harrell and Caruso.

Supposedly, the return was anywhere from 1 pick to 1 pick + 1 player. Based on everything Morey said, I really doubt he would've gone as high as 3 assets.
Whether that player could've been Maxey, who really knows. Honestly, I'm fine with "missing out" on Maxey - there are lots of decent PGs out there.

All I can say is, I am glad things turned out the way it did, resulting us getting Scottie!!
Maybe trading Lowry earlier we our result might be a Mobley or a Suggs or a Kuminga + something. I am just happy the way it is now currently.

Re: So what COULD we have gotten for Kyle Lowry?
I think we could've got a late 1st + expiring from a contender had we traded him last summer.
We lost bargaining power after that since teams knew he was walking and we wanted to do him right by trading him to a team of his choice.
In hindsight I think it is what it is. Dragic has 0 trade value so I dont expect us to get any assets for him. Precious doesnt have much of a future with us since he's undersized and we have Pascal, Barnes, and OG who will eat up minutes.
He's a helpful addition to the Heat but his production is already declining and I'm unsure if that team is better than all of the Bucks, Nets, 76ers, Clippers, Lakers, Nuggets, Jazz, Warriors, etc. My gut is this Heat team wont win a title.

They would have gave us Nunn too bc they weren't bringing him back anyways

I agree the big miss is likely not getting the bird rights to Nunn, who I think is a solid young prospect. I believe for Toronto it was already pretty clear/known that he wanted to go to Miami, but the deal didn't get done because Miami didn't want to give up Herro or Robinson in the deal.
Could have also just taken the best offer from LA, even though LA reportedly didn't want to give up THT in the deal.
