take your rose tinted glasses off. case could be made for either one. But given Cav's record so far I'd give it to Mobley too.

On god, I don't know if you're a troll or a Raptors fan.
Anyways it's a two man race at this point between Mobley vs Barnes.

Why is this even a thread? It is just a early season social post.

I have watched Mobley play a few times and even in the Cavs game against Toronto he outplayed Barnes. He is a very good defensive player and a future offensive hub. As much as people love Barnes, he is a bit lacking with off-ball defense and gets blown by often.

Maybe Barnes will also be great, but to me Mobley looks like the player who can be a franchise guy. The guy is 215 lbs and playing C and PF - so much upside being a near 7 footer. One he gain weight he will dominate like KG.

Barnes is already at his physical peak - at least I'd be surprised if he grew or got more explosive. Things usually swing the other way after the rookie year.

Its fine. 1 and 2 in any order is fine and mobley is helping his team to a better record than torontos (so far) despite being on a worse team on paper. So if thats the deciding factor its fine.

Hes also basically #1 in basically every advanced stat. Theres that too.

They're clearly the 2 best rookies. We got a good one too.

Chill.

i dont think the Cavs are worse than the raptors on paper at all. We could say they were championship calibre players but lets face it, none of those guys would have any accolades if not for Kawhi. And they've done nothing note worthy after his departure. So in reality we have a few over-achieving late draftees/undrafted players running the show now. Not exactly high-end talents.

I'd easily give it to Mobley. he looks far superior to Barnes both now & as a prospect. It's no secret Masai was reportedly trying to trade up to get him and it's easy to see why

That said, I love Scottie! Very happy with him so far, and he can be great too. Hee's clearly more of a project despite the early contribution (which is sweetening the pot)

Mobley hasn't really shown much self creation. A lot of his offense comes from the creation of others resulting in open dunks and 3s. Scottie has displayed more self creation and has been just as efficient.

I don't think it's as clear cut as some are making it between the two.

Mobley is just really NBA ready. He has a bunch of nba ready skills on both ends. Scottie…does not. Barnes is doing most of his damage off instincts, athleticism and smarts. When Barnes’ skill development catches up to his unteachables he’s got to be in the conversation for best player in the league in 5 years. They’re both gonna be great but I think in the long run Barnes will be a little better. Mobley, to me, is the more polished product thus far and has been better than Scottie since the thumb injury so Mobley deserves being too of the rookie ladder imo. However, I’d rather have Barnes long term.

2nd is fine. Just keep developing and he'll be fine.

It's crazy how we picked the 2nd best player in a loaded draft after tanking in Tampa with a plus point differential. And just to add to that, we wanted to move up for Mobley. It's crazy how good we are at scouting.

Don't lose sleep over a ROTY award if Barnes doesn't get it. Pointless award.

Of the last 15 ROTY only 2 have won a title as the focal point (Irving and Durant) so far.

Um, just like to point out that we are 10-12 games in (depending on the team) on an 82-game season. Cade Cunningham just started playing, injuries can happen, things will likely change. Why does everyone want to start handing out hardware right now? Shall we award the Larry O'Brien, too?

Barnes has been slightly better but they are neck & neck and I have no problem with Mobley being #1.
Especially when you consider the fact that Mobley won their first matchup and his team has a better record.

I think its a fair assessment so far, but Barnes is more raw it seems, so let's see how things look deeper into the season. Covid made it an odd draft to start with.

They're also the two best rookies (so far) in a totally stacked rookie class. In a lot of seasons, a guy with Duarte's stats would be a clear top two ROY candidate. Not to mention, Mobley and Barnes are the two guys that were supposed to struggle a bit as rookies (Barnes being raw, Mobley being skinny) and they're both fantastic.

I think there's an argument to be made that Scottie is a better fit here as he fills a leadership/charisma/energy void that was left after Kyle went to Miami. But I don't think ROY really matters as much as having a blue chip prospect who clearly likes being here.

A case can be made for either at this point however Scottie as good as he's looked is still very raw which is the scary part. A full offseason of Raptors development and he leaps and bounds ahead of Mobley but tbh you can't go wrong with either.

As much as it hurts me to say this I'm willing to admit Mobley is currently a better player than Barnes. He is more polished offensively and makes his teammates better on the offensive end, whereas Barnes does score efficiently but he is also kind of ruining the spacing for his teammates and clogging things up. I feel like Mobley could play on any team in the NBA and make them better.

That being said Barnes has the higher potential imo and is no doubt the best basketball player to ever walk the planet end of discussion.

I think the Cavs are just 7-5 now.
