Which Raptors Players have most STAR potential?

Raptors are building towards the future. The point of having all these young players is to develop them for the coming times, and they will develop over time. However, in your opinion who has the most potential to reach the highest ceiling?

Most people like me had OG as the next super star. But now I am really intrigued by Scottie Barnes and Gary Trent Jr. I think these two guys are the future gems.

Who will be the role players and who will be the Stars, your opinion?

Barnes
OG
GTJ

In that order of who’s potential is highest (of all the potential stars)

Are we gonna have to trade Gary next year?Don't understand how we can resign him and Fred in the same off-season while keeping our total salary low enough to resign OG and Siakam the following year.

I don't want to trade him....but having to resign all 4 guys in the span of 2 off-seasons doesn't look too promising.

I don't think we should resign some of these guys.

Barnes and OG. No one else has a chance to be a superstar imo.

Barnes. He has top-10 player potential. We have guys like Pascal and FVV who are fringe top-25 players right now, but that's it.

OG has the ability to work his way to being an All Star at some point, but he doesn't have the God given talent to be a top 10-15 player in the league.

Barnes has that talent, and if he puts in the work he's likely going to be a top 5-10 player in the NBA at some point.

17ppg and third in the league in steals...22 years old. That's not bad, GTJ needs more love.

Barnes looks like top five material to me. We've got a solid core all things considered.

Barnes has superstar potential. OG has All Star potential

Gary is an odd case. He’s obviously been very good this season. How much higher is his ceiling though? He’s not that athletic and he doesn’t really have much of an offensive arsenal to create for himself aside from his step backs. Definitely gonna need to improve his handle (though I do think it’s gotten a bit better since last year). Another big question mark is his contract situation. Is he in the long term plans? How do we plan to retain him? He’s probably gonna be looking for a significant increase on his current contract so I’m worried he’s gonna be getting a 25mil per year deal. If that’s the case, I’d look into moving him for some more shot creation and playmaking capabilities. I’d love RJ if there’s any way to make that happen. If Gary is part of the plane moving forward, that’s cool too

Apart from Barnes, OG, Gary, the next big question marks are Achiuwa and Banton. I don’t think either becomes a star but I definitely could see them becoming high level role players.

Idk if Flynn has a future on this team, but I’m not quite ready to give up on him yet. Think he can still become a solid backup PG and carve out a nice career for himself, but idk if that’s gonna happen here or with another team

I think Gary should absolutely be in the Raptors' plans, for whatever he'll cost. As early as his 2nd season, he was looking like a good McCollum replacement. I was shocked when Portland looked to move him.

It's weird how being a 2nd rounder has accelerated his contracts. Sure, he chose a shorter deal when resigning here. But the NBA is backwards in that if a 2nd rounder shows out, they get paid WAY sooner than a 1st rounder. If Gary were the 30th pick instead of the 37th, he'd be balling on a 4th year rookie option right now for like 3mil, probably on his original team. That's crazy

Barnes and GTJ

I’m not as high on OG as some of you. I think he’s on par with Fred and Pascal.

Scottie is in a league of his own for potential on this team ie/ superstar potential

OG can catch Pascal to be a borderline all-star type. Gary can be something like Fred as a high level starter.

GTJ at max contract = whatever he'll cost

This is a great point and i find this REALLY strange.

I'm not certain on the particulars....but isn't it true that a player and his agent might prefer to go early in the second round as opposed to late in the first?

I guess going late in the first is more GUARANTEED money but i'd like to see a breakdown of the relative probability of outcomes. Gary is making more in his fourth season than Luka made and more than zion or cade or barnes or mobley will be making 8n their fourth seasons.

I'd guess the agents have crunched the numbers so for most players...the guaranteed money is better (relatively speaking) than the chance to make Trent money in their third season.

I'd be interested in learning more about why it is this way.

This is a mind-blowing post.

Flynn is older than Trent.

In what universe does one conclude that flynn still has untapped potential but Trent is showing signs of capping out? How skewed does one's perspective have to be? How biased?

To each his own and all that...i just find it hard to believe that someone can be THIS skewed in their judgement.

For a 22 year old...the ability of trent to make those sidestep/stepback shots one on one is extremely rare. How many players his age and under can do them routinely like he does? Is there more than 10? I doubt it.

What exactly can flynn even do that isn't common in euro-league or g-league players?

Maybe it has something to do qith our drafting of flynn and posters here buying into the typical hype that comes with first rounders.....but the tolerance for flynn's mediocrity is MINDBLOWING in context of the hate that is spewed for our starters. There is no other player on our team for whom the bar is set this low for the haters on this board.

Too soon to tell, but most promising yes.
