Toronto Maple Leafs winger Mitch Marner was the victim of an armed carjacking outside a movie theatre in Etobicoke on Monday night, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
Marner was in his Range Rover in the area of Islington Avenue and the Queensway at 7:45 p.m. on Monday for a reported carjacking.
Police said three suspects, two armed with guns and another with a knife, approached Marner’s vehicle, reportedly in the area of Cineplex Cinemas Queensway.
They then sped off in the vehicle.
He was not injured in the encounter.

Crazy story. Vehicle theft and carjackings seem to have skyrocketed in the GTA this year.

It's probably already on the boat to Africa. Land Rover has traditionally been a very valued brand over there.

Carjackings are becoming a big problem in the city now. If you drive a high end SUV especially, stay alert out there.

Car jackings are becoming a huge problem, since 2019 car jackings have more than doubled.

These days when Uber and Lyfts are so accessible it’s not like you can even get stranded if someone takes your car. It’s like if you get car jacked, oh well. Just don’t keep valuables in your car

Huh?!! Range Rover and Africa?! Don't know which part of Africa you are talking about but even though they are from the same company the Land Rover and Range Rover are way too different from each other RR won't last a week in Africa.

Also why Africa ?! why not Russia or South America it's a very valued brand over there too .

This is becoming a huge issue in the GTA. People getting carjacked in broad daylight, in high foot traffic areas, while trying to park at home, and I've even seen videos of cars get jacked while babies are still in the back seat

People are getting desperate nowadays more than ever, and I can see why people are stopping so low as committing crime to get by.

I feel like I'm getting robbed every time I go pump gas or pick up groceries with the state of things, thinking how long is this going to go on?.

It's real **** out there and it all starts from the top.

These vehicles are worth sooooo much money overseas, in the Middle East particularly, so organized crime has really started to focus on high end vehicles theft. Car jacking is just one of the ways these thefts occur...

Organized crime is a high problem in Toronto and that's not changing anytime soon.

What I don't get is why isnt there better patroll at the loading docks to catch these fools? obviously these guys aren't keeping these vehicles for themselves but shipping them off elsewhere, every single shipping container should be stopped and searched, it should be bloody hard to miss a giant stolen suv inside

Man feel terrible for marner, can't imagine being in this situation if theres family involved.

couple months back, around christmas, I found a guy trying to unlock my mercedes with his cell phone on the same corner.

its always been a little dodgy there, just have to pay attention and you'll notice -- etobicoke east and york have a huge mafia heritage (exibit A: the Ford Brothers). that strip of queensway is littered with money laundering nail and massage salons. if you look carefully youll even notice a "social club" or two.... I mean mimico is still full of chop shops and metal scrappers. Drive around the industrial areas of Etobicoke at night and watch for under covers with high zoom lenses. Seen them regularity since I was a kid in the 90s

You can sell it for double the value in west Africa; particularly Nigeria. A typical SUV that would cost you 40k CDN would go for 80k CDN in Nigeria easily for example.

Lots of guns were purchased with all that CERB money.
