But New York agreed to meet Masai's "exorbitant" price of Iman Shumpert and a future first, but Dolan reneged. Holy crap that would have been a disaster for the Raptors. I doubt the Raptors ever listed a price for OG and just kept taking pitches.
The Knicks organization as a single corporate entity ultimately rejected the Kyle deal. I get annoyed when people say Masai "got lucky" when it pulled out.
Kyle's reputation at the time was as a surly, coach-killing, non-winning journeyman. And he was on an expiring contract. So yes, for Masai to demand Shump and first for that was "exorbitant". And Dolan made an understandable call, especially after the Bargnani deal blew up in their faces.
Picks can be useful (although Knicks apparently only use them to shed bad salaries). Masai turned the 2016 Knicks pick into Kawhi. Maybe this Knicks pick would have been another Siakam.
