Relative to the draft, that last bullet point is perhaps the most relevant. Several disappointed lottery teams are now in position to potentially trade their pick, but a vexing question remains: Trade it for what? Which teams are looking to throttle down and convert a star-caliber veteran into a draft pick? Even teams that might get hammered by the new luxury-tax rules, such as the Clippers and Warriors, don’t seem to be of a mind to just start shedding talent.

One can argue there are teams that should be doing this, mind you, but sorry: There does not appear to be any willpower for this type of step back in places like, say, Chicago or Portland or Washington. Zach LaVine, Damian Lillard and Bradley Beal aren’t walking through that door. Toronto seems like the only team that might — might — entertain dealing elite wings for draft capital. As we’ll see in a minute, this state of affairs puts one lottery team in particular in a quandary.

Who may they target?

- Siakam
- OG
- Brown

Any other potential names?

Demar? CHI needs a reset too as they lost all their recent picks. The fit isn't good at all though defensively. Decent fit offensively though.
Middleton? MIL needs to start thinking about the future too with their aging core, maybe retool for another go around with Giannis. Though I do think the fit is worse here.
Bridges maybe? Fits quite well.

There’s people on this board that will tell you OG is an elite forward.

Brown seems like the obvious choice, If I was Portland I would look into Pascal as well. As a raps fan, I'm not sure if I like Simons+3 for Pascal, would make me a little sad, but if they pulled the trigger, I could understand going in a different direction and taking care of our Champion Pascal & sending him to a contender.

Lillard
Sharpe
J.Grant
Pascal

Can’t imagine too many more guys, especially seeing as they are looking for an “elite” wing. Even OG although one of the most diverse defenders in the league, him being “elite” is still questionable.

I hear Grant may be gone. But I assume if they make the trade, they'll do what it takes to retain him, as I don't see how they'd replace him.

Portland would be so stupid to do this but I wouldn't put it past them given what they've been doing with that team the past few years.

Either way, this is something Masai needs to pursue. I remember hearing the same things last year about their 7th pick being up for grabs. I won't believe anything until I see that 3rd pick being moved.

Demar and Middleton are probably too old to justify trading those 2 young pieces for.

middleton aint on sikakams level anymore. and demar is old and would be a bad fit next to dame, essentially the same reason they got rid of cj he fits a sg mold more than a forward.

IF POR is going to lose Grant/not re-sign him...could they:
S&T Grant to us for OG+whatever salary is needed and then do a second deal: Siakam and 13 for Simons, Sharpe and 3 (salaries work for the Siakam deal). Maybe reroute 13 for a starting SG they need?

So essentially becomes OG, Siakam, 13 for Simons, Sharpe, Grant, 3?

Lillard, Thybulle/Reddish/13 trade, OG, Siakam, Nurkic

FVV/Simons/Barnes/Grant/Poeltl with Achiuwa, Sharpe, Miller/Scoot, Boucher off the bench.

It feels unrealistic and would clearly depend on Grant accepting the trade here which is a long shot. But I think both teams get better fits. Lillard gets the #2 and wing defenders he has needed, while the Raps get shooting and youth.

I don't disagree. And I don't think the fit is there either, but just listing possible names.

Lillard had previously stated he wanted Mikal Bridges or OG Anunoby. OG made an All-Defense team. So there's that...
(Though it sounds like more people are mentioning 2-time All-NBA Pascal Siakam.)

But, if it's anything like last year, it'll just be a pages and pages of speculation with nothing happening on draft night.

Why on earth did they trade josh hart?!? He’s the perfect 3 and d “Danny green type” to compliment lillard.

Lillard - hart - grant - nurkic — you could argue that team is a pascal trade away from contending.

This actually makes a lot of sense for both sides and offsets Portland’s potential cap issues by flipping grant.

I think it will be different this year, we absolutely need to make a move. We can't afford to pay everyone and I don't think masai will just let a few guys walk while running back an even thinner lineup
