Horrific. Why we're so allergic to competent guards is mind-boggling.

Got this from No Ceilings:

PLAYER A

First 16 Games in NBL:

5.6 PTS | 2.8 REB | 0.8 AST | 0.2 STL | 0.3 BLK

18.0 MIN | 28.0 FG% | 18.0 3P% | 61.5 FT%

PLAYER B

First 16 Games in NBL:

6.5 PTS | 2.3 REB | 0.9 AST | 0.8 STL | 0.2 BLK

18.5 MIN | 35.6 FG% | 26.8 3P% | 82.6 FT%

Player A is the 2022 11th overall selection Ousmane Dieng, now of the Oklahoma City Thunder. Player B is Rayan Rupert this year.

Every year teams are out chasing for the next big wing. You see the value of OG and Mikal the past trade deadline and I think the big defensive-minded wings are the best play for immediate translatability to the NBA. If you are big, mobile and want to defend, you find time on an NBA court. End of story.

Between Sidy/Rayan/Bilal I think Rayan should be considered at the top because the defense translated for a championship level team. Do I worry about the shot? Like the others I do, but by all accounts he an elite worker and from the film he does have a good mechanical base. The high 70s FT% he ended his NBL time with shows he can figure things out.

While I do like the scoring upside of Nick Smith Jr. and Maxwell Lewis more, history dictates we select the elite defender. Rayan appears to be that plug and play wing stopper that we love to gamble on.

Probably need 4-5 more years to make a preliminary assessment. However, I would have concerns on multiple levels after the short time already observed. But this guy just throwing out this comment just speaks to inexperience.

I'm a fan of Rupert, but he was losing minutes toward the end of their playoff run and Coulibaly is currently gaining minutes during their deep playoff run. I do think the NBL is much harder to play well in for prospects, though.

Another mild concern is that Rupert's athletic testing was garbage. Not sure what was going on there, as he looks like a very good athlete. Hopefully it's a Kawhi situation where he was just off that day.

Screw it, I’m zeroing back in on DWH to us. He would’ve been a top 5 pick had he been healthy this year. He was always the best player on the floor when matched up versus his peers in high school because he was healthy. And now he had a down year in college and basically did what Gradey Dick did. More was just expected of DWH so he dropped and is now potentially available beyond the 20th pick. You could probably trade down and get him plus another good player.

Despite all that happened he still remained a knock down shooter, which is also a skill we sorely need. He fits like a glove on this roster whether we choose to win now or rebuild, and he might end up being the best American born prospect taken if his health holds up.

He’s younger than Coulibaly, younger than George, younger than anyone not named GG Jackson. He’s almost a year younger than everyone else. There’s so much time for him to blossom. Get this guy in the room with Alexander McKechnie and watch him flourish.

Bilal is interesting and seems like an athlete that pops more. I am coming around to him but I don't have a feel for who he is other than he plays hard.

Rayan speaks English well and from interviews he watches the NBA and clearly patterns himself after Bridges. His coaches rave about his work ethic. To me he has an obvious path and he already went to an English speaking country and showed well.

The athletic testing sucked and I don't think he is a huge vertical athlete either. But he is a fast laterally and has long arms which will help him on defense and finishing.

Rumoured draft promise to bilal is expected to be from OKC so someone interesting should fall to # 13.

Wait, wtf he's STILL 18 until Aug 1. :o If he doesn't get back to elite shape he still could be Michael Redd.

I like his upside at #13 spot. Think he has a high floor as 3&D, underrated defender. Just didn't see enough in terms of shot creation and handles. Supposedly has a good in between game but didn't see it, had a low usage role at Duke. Was Scottie's teammate for 1 year in high school. I'd bet you could trade down if they really liked him though.

Yeah, he’s only a month or two older than GG Jackson. He’s a guy I’m focusing on from now moving forward. There’s no denying the struggles at Duke but injuries will do that to a guy. I’ll never forget when Masai took OG he simply said “we need talent”. That’s the case with DWH as well. He would’ve been too 5, top 10 at the worst if he hadn’t gotten hurt a few times this season.

Yeah, I think the worst case for him is 3+D. But if he’s able to avoid injuries in the pros he might be more than that. I think my Tatum comparisons run people the wrong way, so I can see peak Dariq being somewhat of a Devin Booker in the pros. I know, I know, Booker is an elite NBA scorer, and I’m not saying that’s what he becomes but they’re both guys who were overlooked in college that have similar scoring styles. I had Booker top 5 in 2015 but there wasn’t enough evidence for teams to take him that high. Both guys are mostly shooters who can get to the mid range a good bit. Not elite first steps, but enough to get to their spots.

Let's trade #13 for #21 and #22. Draft Sidy Cissoko and Dariq Whitehead. I feel like 1 of those 2 should develop into a starting SG/SF.

Nets would draft Cason, Bufkin or Nick Smith.

I would be 100% on board with trading down. It seems like after the top 9-11 guys it becomes a bit of a wash in terms of talent. How is it that guys like DWH, Cissoko, Sasser, Podz, etc are ranked in the 20’s or 30’s? There’s value all over this draft board.

There are slight difference between the three when drafted but there is more that is similar. Not saying it's not possible but that's more Masai than Masai if they do.

I wouldn't mind a trade down of #13 for #21 and #22, do you think the Nets would do it?

If we can't get Bilal, take Sidy.

Cissiko may be the most underrated prospect in this draft imo.
