Crazy how far this team has come. Remembering the years where the puck heads were saying how we were losing money and how we were only still around because of the profits from the Leafs.

-8th most valuable team in the NBA.
-Most valuable franchise in all of Canada.

Basketball is getting more and more popular. Canada deserves more than one team.

On a side note, I think Rogers underreports the value of the Jays since they own the team and the broadcaster (most teams make a ton of money selling broadcast rights).

I also find it wild that TFC is worth more than an NHL team. Good to see MLS growing.

Pretty much all my friends, and coworkers all are Raptors fans except for a few who are leafs or jays fans, and they do not really overlap. But there is a fair amount of overlap for the people I know for NBA and NFL. I think basketball is more appealing to casuals then other sports (except maybe soccer), its easy to follow and easier to pick out individual star players when watching, and generally pretty exciting to watch with constant back and forth scoring.

i think it has a lot to do with the league's overall value increasing relative to the others. the warriors' valuation has doubled in the last five years and are now worth as much as the yankees, a storied franchise in a massive market in a deeply-rooted cultural american game.

i'm not into hockey anymore but whenever i talk to my friends that do i'm always shocked at hearing their salaries. he says players making more than $10M really limits your ability to build a roster and i just laugh. marvin bagley makes more than auston matthews...

it's just the sheer revenue the entire league has brought in in recent years.

EDIT: i know silver might not have many fans but one of the things i think the league did brilliantly was to let people post their content online. there was a few year stretch where the nfl would shut down any youtube videos of nfl games but the nba embraced it because it was essentially free advertising and allowed the game to grow globally.

Not surprised about the Leafs, but am a touch surprised about the Jays. Their value is suppressed by Rogers though.

These stories are based on very limited info. Eg. Senators just sold for $950M but its value is listed here at $650M. Jays broadcast 162 games with decent tv ratings. I'd say their estimates there are way too low.

Yah, the Senators sold for 950 mill US but some dumb ass went 950 x .70(can $) to get the value.

gonna be interesting what happens once all the big network/cable tv money eventually dries up. that bubbles already about to pop as cable TV is dying.

Presumably the much higher NBA tv contracts, cmpared to MHL, have the most to do with this.

From what I've been told, big chunk of NBA revenue growth recently is actually from international segment.

Over time, the MLS will likely surpass the NHL in terms of average franchise valuation. League needs some of the cheap owners to sell and bring in more spenders.

It's valuation more so than popularity. The NBA as a whole is more valuable than the NHL. There are a lot more hockey fans in Canada vs basketball.

Just look at the NBA salaries compared to the salaries in the NHL. MLB definitely has some big time contracts.

The top players in the NHL are barely sniffing what vv makes in a year. Puts everything into perspective.

NBA has done an incredible job marketing and growing the game. Take notes, Bettman.

The signing of Messi should put inter Miami to at least crack top 50 lol
