In lawsuit filed today and obtained by SNY, Knicks allege that a former employee “illegally took thousands of proprietary files with him to his new position” with the Raptors. Suit alleges that material included play frequency reports, a prep book for ‘22-‘23 & video scouting.


Knicks suit alleges that former employee Ikechukwu Azotam ‘illegally procured’ and disclosed the proprietary info and shared it with members of the Raptors, including head coach Darko Rajaković and player development coach Noah Lewis. Azotam was hired by TOR earlier in offseason

Source said Knicks contacted Raptors and NBA before filing the suit against Toronto. Suit alleges that Azotam signed agreement as NYK employee with a ‘confidentiality clause requiring him to maintain the secrecy of all confidential or proprietary Knicks information.’

In addition to violating the employee agreement suit says TOR defendants ‘directed Azotam to misuse his access to the Knicks’ subscription to Synergy Sports to create and then transfer to the Raptors Defendants over 3,000 files consisting of film information and data.’

Ikechukwu Azotam acted alone. We, as an organization had no inclination about the actions of the accused.

We don't know what his employment agreement with the Knicks outlined, but maybe there was a clause stating his work was property of the Knicks? If there wasn't any such clause I wonder what evidence they would have to try to sue him.

Wouldn't their lawsuit is with the individual and not the Raptors organization?

Unless there is some law that an business can't use these? Or is there something internally in the NBA that the Raptors violated?

He probably used synergy to do an interview project or something. Unless the Raptors don't have their own subscription to synergy, not sure what else the reason could possibly be.

Exciting stuff. It'll be interesting to see just what was transferred over and whether or not a court would rule it proprietary.

I, Ikechukwu, take full responsibility for my actions. The Raps had no idea I was accessing the Knicks database. They thought I had thousands of plays memorized.
