Toronto Blue Jays fans how you feel?

Post#1 » by JustBuzzin » Fri Dec 8, 2023 1:15 am

The Blue Jays are reportedly the frontrunners to sign the best baseball player in the world Shohei Ohtani. The best part is they are reportedly the frontrunners over the LA Dodgers.

What's the vibes like in Toronto about the potential addition of Ohtani?

I don't know man, it seems like the Blue Jays jumped ahead because of the Dodgers leak about meeting Ohtani.

Ohtani has already owned California. He can own a entire country if he takes his talent to The North!

Shatkins doing this would be the ultimate in damage control. A lot of people are saying (jokingly?) that winning straight up wouldn't even matter if this goes through. I guess if you're into that, that's cool.

If we get him, there will be an influx of new baseball fans who were actually Japanese baseball enthusiasts the whole time.

Well, you might not want to start watching next year then, cause Shohei is probably out until the 25-26 season.

nah, he's just not pitching next year but he's still gonna be batting

and the jays could make it happen. they have the money to invest in a guy like ohtani and outbid everyone else.

Jays are actually pretty good in attracting aging free agents, usually by adding an extra year onto the deal.

And with Ohtani turning 30 next season, he definitely qualifies as an aging, injury prone free agent. Just the guy you want to give $600 million to over 10 years.

Ah, I thought he was out fully, but I guess you can still bat after TJ surgery.

Let’s see where he signs. Dodgers vs Jays means we can compete on salary. Provincial income tax here is 8 points higher than California so in theory it wouldn’t cost us that much more relatively speaking to match the Dodger’s offer. Plus Ohtani camp may value marketing opportunities here more.

Will be insane if we pull this off but I’m remaining mildly optimistic.

If Jays fans here are also Raptors fans, they know first hand nothing's final until they sign on the dotted line.

Seems like pretty big money tied to one player for a sport like baseball who seem to get injured more often for longer periods already as years go by. I don't watch baseball so I don't really care how they do but would be intrigued if a player of that magnitude actually comes here.

Will Lou recorded an interview with Yuta Watanabe today, to be be played tomorrow depending what happens. Will said Yuta and Ohtani are friends and he got Yuta to make a pitch to Ohtani recorded.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

This isn’t LeBron. This is Babe Ruth. He’s not a generational talent, he’s a once in a century talent.

People don't realize how big this dude is in Japan. He brings an entire country with him.

Ohtani is like MJ in Japan. Icon status.

A future hall of famer, who both hits and pitches amongst the best in the league, something we haven't seen since Babe Ruth, and the possibility to be the biggest singing arguably in Toronto sports history, and you can't see how it's a good investment?
