Looking Back at the OG Rumoured Trades (Pick the Best Package)

With the OG deal now being finalized, thought it would be a good time to poll which deal was the best for us long term out of all the rumoured deals in the past year
It was reported that Memphis, Indy and NY all offered 3 first round picks //
From what I can remember, these were late first round picks from various teams or highly protected picks like NY had offered (from Wash and DET) The Toronto Raptors didn't trade O.G. Anunoby before Thursday's deadline, but the Memphis Grizzlies were among the many teams who tried to acquire the forward.
"For instance, I've heard Memphis offered three first-round picks for Anunoby," ESPN's Zach Lowe said on The Lowe Post podcast (h/t RealGM). "But Toronto made it clear to these teams, like, 'we want a player, too.' I don't think that sort of player was on the table, at least from their view at least in Memphis."
The Indiana Pacers also reportedly offered picks but didn't meet the Raptors' demand for a top player in return.
Several weeks before the 2022 NBA trade deadline, someone from the Knicks reached out to Toronto to ask about OG Anunoby. Armed with a bevy of first-round picks, New York at the time was prepared to include multiple firsts in an Anunoby trade.
Toronto wasn’t interested. The Raptors decided to keep Anunoby at the 2022 trade deadline. - Begley
It was long rumoured Portland offered #7 (Sharpe) plus Hart .. but Toronto wanted a first on top of that

And then the package we waited on and got from NY
Personally I think the IQ deal is the best because he's only 24 and will be our lead guard for the future. RJ is another asset who they think they can improve. The picks are all wild cards and from all accounts weren't all 3 unprotected. Best to get the real player IMO

Hindsight being 20/20 it is the Portland deal, but at the time Sharpe was far from a sure thing. He had missed the entire year at college.

The portland package is the best, it was a good offer at the time, we should have done it if it was on the table
The other pick packages aren't great. Memphis three picks sounds nice but those were likely picks in the 20s, i would rather have someone proven like IQ

Shams said the Knicks were offering Fournier and picks last year so I think the package we did get is better than that.

The POR and NY deals are the best for me. I like IQ more than Sharpe, so I'd go with the NY deal, but you can't go wrong with either of those packages.

Is it though?
Quickley vs Sharpe - Quickley is currently a much better player than Sharpe. Sharpe is cheaper, and maybe has higher potential, but Quickley currently looks like he will have the better career.
Barrett vs Hart - Barrett again is IMO the better player. Hart is cheaper, however he is older and is a finished product.
DET 2024 2nd vs no pick - obviously the pick is better than no pick.
Either way - the tweet in OP said Portland walked away from the deal, not us.

In hindsight the Portland and Memphis offers were also good. However I’m happy with the Knicks trade.

The 3 firsts form Memphis were all mid-late 20's I think. That's kind of the problem with just reporting it was 3 firsts. It's not like we passed on 3 #1 overall picks.

Doesn't make sense to include an asking price that wasn't accepted and was never going to be accepted, even if true.
The difference between asks and offers, should be relatively straight forward.

How can you not be happy with Quickley?
RJ's defence is solid and his offence is better than people's comments would imply.

I think it's key to understand that none of these are confirmed "we could have had them".
Obviously Sharpe is really interesting at 20 years old. He's started to calm down after a hot start.
All the pick deals have us getting mid to late firsts... big MEH from me.

POR walked away when we wanted a first on top of Sharpe, Hart/Little

They could have drafted whomever they liked with that pick, but right now it looks like Sharpe is a future star and Hart is on par with OG. That's the best trade package at the moment. And we wouldn't have had to waste 1 1/3 years of OG trying to show he deserved more touches.
But, if you compare the leverage Masai had this is a home run package. We now know OG is unlikely to be the player he thinks he should be, and he was also about to get paid to be that player.

Was Malachi going back in any of the other trades? Because I cried a little when I saw that he was being moved as well.

The POR and NY trade packages were the best ones

The thing is, last year we weren't 100% sure what Scottie's trajectory was. So picks might have made more sense at the time. Now he's shooting 40% from 3 and is being considered for the all-star game (especially if the team can get back to .500). So clearly the priority is to get a running mate, RIGHT NOW. Not a bunch of late 20s picks.
No-one, besides the Knicks recently, was offering a player in the same time zone as Quickley. And that's exactly what Scottie (and this team) needed - a guard who could knock down his damn shots.
Trust the process.

All-star level Quickley is worth 3 FRPs in his own right

Sharpe has had his moments, but he came off the bench last night. Is he coming back from injury?

POR. The ceiling for Sharpe is probably smidge higher than Quick.

I don't think I'd take Sharpe and filler alone even now over the Knicks trade.
