We will find out alot about whether this is a career threatening thing or not after the trade deadline. He is not guaranteed for next year so if he is not potentially going to return to play next year, they will waive him if they don't include his salary in a deal. If he is kept on the roster past the deadline, given his non-guarantee next year, it means that they think there is a reasonable chance he will be back to playing eventually.
