The NBA is finalizing plans to turn the 2024 draft into a two-night event in Brooklyn, sources told ESPN on Thursday.

The draft would split into first and second rounds on successive nights -- June 26-27 -- but the league must still get final approval from the National Basketball Players Association before the plan can be made official, sources said.

The NBA and the union have been in regular conversation, sources said.

But why? lol Don't think ratings will see a boost on the second night and this just ruins the moment for some of the guys that are anxiously waiting to be drafted. You slide in the first round and suddenly have to come back the next day to see if you're drafted. It's not like the NBA is the NHL where there's a **** ton of draft rounds either.

I like the idea of adding a 3rd round that would get a 2-way for 1 year.

But not if it's by regular season records, with worst going first. To much reward for bad management. I would make the 3rd round order decided by a full 30-team lottery.

The second round takes like 45 minutes, and only the first 5-10 picks have a shot. This is a stupid idea. All the major sports have deep multi-round drafts.

Only reason I can think of is team execs want more time to decide who to pick.

But that still won't stop ESPN from airing a commercial instead of who we draft at pick 31.

I mean, this probably helps the Raptors this year if true right? It would give them ample time to figure out who take 1st overall on Night #2, rather than being forced to make that decision in like 5 minutes.

It def makes the pick more valuable in trade too, as teams who missed out on players or want to fill roster holes will have more time to come up with offers and evaluate the rest of the players in the draft.

You don't think a team like the Raptors picking 31st will benefit from having 20 hours to evaluate the remaining players vs. 5 minutes? It also opens up another day for teams to gather and talk trade.

This is a silly idea in my opinion. 2nd rounders hardly ever hit.. we can only hear about Jokic soo much, but reality is 95%+ of these picks are outta the league in 2 years, assuming they even sniff an NBA court. How much hype and analysis does one wanna hear about these guys?

Just keep the energy, focus & attention packed into one night and move on.

Meh it’s just a money grab.

They take way too long in between picks imo. But it will be nice for the 2nd round players to get more attention and the opportunity to go on stage and have their draft moment.

As aside Scottie’s draft moment is an all time one lol

The 2-way contract changed everything.

A lot of teams want to use their 2-way contracts on second round picks.

So they spend the round trying to find players willing to accept a 2-way.

It’s why TJD with GSW fell to 57. No one wanted to give him a regular roster 2nd round contract.

Now that they’ve added more guaranteed money and more years (benefit for player and team) to 2nd round picks, maybe the number of players being asked to take a 2-way drops?

But this way, teams are going to have more time to find guys willing to take their terms and it will give players more time to find a team where they feel there is a better chance of success (and money).
