If I was a Manager of the Knicks, I wouldn't make the trade
Note: The playing time for the new teams was increased for Barrett, Quickley and Anunoby!

We all have different opinions, and that is one thing that makes this forum great.

How are the Knicks doing since the trade?

The Knicks are 7-2 since the trade. I'm pretty sure they're happy with the results. OG has been a perfect fit on their roster. IQ and RJ were never going to get used like they're being used here.

OG's defense is insane. His impact on the court is insane, like look at his +/-. Fits the Knicks roster perfectly.

While this comparison really ignores the defensive side of the ball I gotta agree - this is going to be a trade NYK regrets.

I feel its more Brunson and Randle just going nuclear these days than OG. OG has just been doing OG things, which is fine.
NYK raised their floor with OG but we really raised our ceiling with IQ and RJ. Its a Win-Win trade.

They're not going to regret it because IQ and RJ were never going to get an opportunity to play a significant role on that roster. The fit just wasn't there and would never be there, unless they decided to rebuild.

They still could regret it regardless. OG could in theory leave NYK this off-season, or they might end up having to pay him an albatross contract. If IQ blows up and surpasses OG as a player (hell...even RJ so far looks like he could) they will have regrets.

Re: If I was a Manager of the Knicks, I wouldn't make the trade
I can see from NY's standpoint that IQ was going to be stuck behind Brunson and Barrett was going to be stuck behind Randle so paying 50M for support players probably isn't a wise use of funds. The only question is, should they have targeted a better player than OG with the assets they gave up and the money they're going to spend to re-sign him. That's a valid question. But, in the end, OG's a great fit for them and I think this is as close to a win-win trade as there is.

RJ Barrett is playing out of his mind. The trade and the fact that OG isn’t around anymore hasn’t seemingly sunk in yet. But it will.

New York should have build around RJ instead of Randle
Offload Randle for picks, and picks + IQ for OG
Brunson + RJ + OG + Mitchell

I totally agree. It’s clear they needed O.G
The only thing is let’s see what happens next.
What if Knicks can’t go past 2nd round
What if Knicks overpay for O.G and next season the Knicks plateau.
I totally understand why NYK did the move.
But there is still a possibility that a year from now, the trade does not look as good for them
Same could be said for Raptors.
I truly think it’s a win-win trade. I am on board with the decision taken by both FO.
But my future self could see the situation differently.

Re: If I was a Manager of the Knicks, I wouldn't make the trade
I bet this is gonna be a bad trade for the knicks. They weren't ready to go all out for an OG type player. He's more a guy you add if you're already there. Like the nuggets. Maybe even a team like the Suns.
35 or 40 milly for a non-traditonal basketball player? Guys like Rodman and artest never demanded that and never hamstrung your team's options. OG is overrated in the sense that a 15 to 20 milly guy in the same role is good enough. The only time I'd want an ELITE guy in that role, with THAT salary.... is if I have a top 5 talent like Luka. The knicks don't.
Raptors are so lucky that the stars aligned and they got more than market value return for OG because of personal relations between his agent and NY FO.

I like what a Knicks poster said, OG is not a superstar but has the impact of one.
Who says the order of building a team must be getting the scoring star first, then add OG. They added OG first, then seems like another guard next to balance the team for this year's playoffs - Murray, Brogdon or other. Then in the summer get a superstar if available, who asks out maybe. Or trade Randle for KAT. Something.
No guarantees it works but I like that they're trying. No shame in finishing 4th in the strong East then losing to Boston's superteam second round.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Kat ain't gonna cut it neither. If they play Boston....they put brown on Brunson, Randle chokes....and then OG basically offers nothing. You can rest Tatum by having him stand beside OG on the perimeter.
What you give up in having OG on your offense isn't obvious but it's real. He really needs to be paired with a Luka or a durant (maybe too late for that) or a joker or whoever (the top 5 is kinda in Flux right now).
It's not gonna happen...but philly is probably the best fit for him this summer. Maxey/embiid/og is a ridiculously well-balanced 3 headed monster. Whoever he gets paired with....they have to have a surplus of traditional ball talent to make up for his deficit.
Embiid - mvp. Elite in both defense and offense.
Maxey - elite offense, huge defensive liability.
Og - elite defense, huge offensive liability.
It really does seem like a perfect troika.
But he's definitely better off with the knicks than with us though.
Ppl blame Pascal for the bubble loss to celtics....but there was a reason why we had to go back to him over and over again. We couldn't even TRY to let OG get his midrange game a chance. And Tatum was basically in rest mode while covering him. That's why OG never gets the blame. Because he's not good enough to even get the chance to fail so he never gets the criticism.

If OG had the impact of one then it would have reflected in more team success here.
He’s a great fit in NYK but they aren’t going anywhere with Brunson and Randle and…that’s okay because fans in NY can finally see some competitive basketball.
RJ has been super efficient but still not very impactful. That’s the worry with him but he’s got a lot of skills and just needs to learn how to play the game the right way. Easier said than done. IQ is one I’m most excited about. He’s going to be a great player. Knicks gave up a bit too much talent but if RJ doesn’t develop then it’s an even trade.

I still like the trade but stop the cap, they might be the 2nd best team in the east now. Are we a better team without OG? I'm not going to speculate on that but IQ and RJ potential compensates for that risk IMO.

I agree about the Sixers. Better fit.
You're exaggerating to call OG an offensive liability. He's not a shot creator but is a very good 3 point shooter. Great finisher on the break too but NYK don't run enough.
Knicks offense with so much iso of two guys is not that fun to watch. Except Brunson himself is fun to watch, with all those moves. Not like watching FVV struggle to get separation last year.
