Which Pacers young player Raptors missed out the most in Siakam trade?

Pacers have lot of young players with upside. When the trade talks between Pacers and Raptors become known, it was expected that at least 1 Pacers young player with upside will be traded to Raptors. Some were talking about 2 such players. But unfathomably Raptors did not get any such player from Pacers. :noway: As a result, the road to getting ready to contend has been prolonged a lot.

Which Pacers young player Raptors missed out the most in Siakam trade? The one who you think would have helped Raptors the most in becoming a contender sooner.

Does it matter? They werent available. If they were, we would have got one.

They weren't available, so if they weren't available how could you miss out on them? It's like asking who in the 2018 draft would of helped us win the championship, when we didn't even have a 2018 draft pick. Jalen Bruson I guess?

IDK? Probably the lottery pick that is actually getting big minutes?

They were all available (at least 1) if Raptors had tried harder.

We prolonged the road to contention by a lot by not getting...Jarace Walker or Benedict Mathurin?

Some wild **** takes this week.

you could have gotten jackson, jalen, neismith etc if raptors were willing to take less picks.

Mathurin was never going to be part of the trade

Walker isn't even a rotation player at this point, so I'm not losing any sleep over it

Haha you know this how? Were you in these negotiations? You can't force a team to give up players they don't want to give up.

None of the Pacers kids have really shown all that much yet outside of Ben and he definitely wasn't available nor does he fit the defensive philosophy of the organization..... They'd basically be draft picks. The Raptors need to return to their development ways. It's much nicer having a giant pool of players available that you can scout the hell out of and develop from day 1. You also get better financial control for longer.

There's also a possibility the Raptors didn't want any of them!

We also have 3 first rounders this year (hopefully we lose the spurs pick this year tbh) another in 2025 along with 2 in 2026. That's a lot of young players in the pipeline... Getting them all at once makes development harder.

What a pointless thread. How are people still in their feelings about the trade?

I don't think any of them were that exciting. Nesmith is a decent player right now, but I'm not sure how high his ceiling is. Mathurin is a sieve on defence. Wallace hasn't shown anything at the NBA level.

Haliburton's only 23. Add him to the list.

Masai obviously pushed for at least one of Walker, Mathurin, Nembhard, Nesmith and Pacers refused... If they were available in the Siakam deal, at least one would be on our team now.

It is just common sense. If you give up a player like Siakam (All-NBA level) then you get back at least 1 young player with upside and/or high first round draft picks. This is an expected outcome of all such trades, its not rocket science.
If you failed to accomplish any of those goals then it means either you are incompetent or you did not try hard enough. Masai & Bobby are not incompetent so it was the matter of did not try hard enough.

The more I look at it, the more I realize Pascal was trying to help Pacers. Pacers have too many young players. They are NOT going to get the minutes. Pacers fleeced us by not giving a single young asset, but it will bite them in the ass because they are not going to be able to give minutes to all those guys, and they will have to trade them away soon enough before losing them.

That's just not true. He would've signed there in the off-season for nothing, we did this partly to help him (and us, to get anything at all)

I don't understand this logic, it's somehow so inconceivable that they could've held out for more? Indiana is likely willing to pay Siakam $150M+ but they draw the line at Jalen Smith? Why is it always the assumption that Toronto's getting the best possible deal when there's a lot of recent evidence to the contrary?
