Haven't you noticed how much easier it is for opposing teams to get to our basket when Poeltl isn't playing?
Some guys here think his contract is terrible. Is it really?
Yeah, it's too bad that we will not have our own 1st round pick this year, but it's just about bad luck. Nobody could predict that.

Now back to my point. If the Raptors didn't have Jakob Poeltl, what could they do for a center, for the next season? I'm not asking what they would like, but what could they do? There are some other teams wanting to improve that position as well, not just the Raptors.
And there are not many good choices outthere.
If he was a FA, I would definitely sign him for 4 years, at the price of M19.5 each year.

Keep him until we find or develop a starting C. Then let him transition into a back-up role as he ages or trade him if the situation calls for it.

It's easier when you don't have a legitimate C playing to be clear. There are other options.

In a rebuild, he's expendable. The mindset here has to change from winning games to the future core. You can get some plug and play guys that aren't great but can chew up minutes and stick to their role.

Only worth trading him if we’re getting another C. If we were to manage getting Claxton or WCJ either in trading Poeltl or another deal then I’m cool with moving Jakob. Otherwise makes sense to keep him until we find a starting caliber C

Trade him back to the Spurs to get the picks back.

He’s fine for now, not the championship C Masai claimed he was, but he’s what we got.

He’s not the long term answer at C tho

Yak will be fine next to Scottie and I think they complement each other well.

Keep him. If you can get a replacement for him go ahead and move him but I find it hard to imagine a trade where he moves out and we get another C that makes sense

The main thing is that I don’t really see many playoff teams looking for a Center right now. Most are already set in that position

He said he doesn't want to be a part of a rebuild so see what he wants. If he wants to be traded then you can do so.
Otherwise he's a decent centre on a decent contract.
If we trade him there's both Claxton and Jalen Smith who are UFAs.

edit: he just signed with us so we do owe him something. You shouldn't trade away a guy who just signed a 4 year deal with you in the offseason against their will.

I would keep him for now and see if the Thunder want a veteran big man for picks down the road.

He doesn't change much tbh. We were just on a west coast road swing and our team is now weaker (short term) post trades.

When Jacob was playing and we were losing the narrative was the other way. He's is a helpful piece in certain matchup but we are who we are with or without him.

End of the day, we have a direction that has changed and are looking for youth and into the future now so if a trade can be made, you make it.

Leave him be unless he asks for a trade. He is leadership material.

But he is not a priority to move. He is a legit starter, good pick and roll player, good distributor, good blocker, good defender. I would want both Bown and Jak on my roster in the go young plan. Need level headed experienced leaders who contribute.

When we got him a quick, shooting PnR point guard everything clicked. He absolutely makes a difference on both ends in the space he creates on O, and the contests at the rim.

this is a good assessment....
he's a helpful centre to prevent us from getting abused in the paint
he fits the .5 offense that Darko has in place

you only trade him if another team is offering a solid FRP

That would be a mistake. This roster lacks upside and draft capital is the most realistic method to acquire that. Due to lack of high picks, you need to sell now and endure some pain during the interim period.

Keep him unless/until someone gets desperate. We can afford to have a guy who can't shoot 3's if he's shooting 60+ percent from the field, playing good defence, helping on the boards. He's got at least 4 years of good production left in him too

Keep him until we find a quality five that fits the timeline better. I don't think it would be good for the young guys to go back to No C/scrub C lineups. Let them play and develop in a proper lineup.
