Jontay Porter - Sign him!
Jontay Porter as a Raptor, stats "per 36 minutes":
11.7 pts.
7.6 reb.
5.2 ast.
1.7 stl.
2.2 blk.
Not bad at all...
If the coaches work well with him, there is a lot of room to improve his performance on the floor.
Maybe he is not a player on a "starter-level", but he would be GREAT for a back-up PF/C.
He is a great fit for a rebuilding team.
I would sign him for 4 years, for about 4.5M per year!

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
He’s 24
He’s a 3rd string minimum contract at this point, at best. Signing him to move than minimum is Khem Birch all over again.
Sign him and hope he continues to develop, but even then he’s a deep depth player.

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
He is already on a two way and has plenty on nba time left available.
He has an a long injury history.
We have a full roster and are going to make trades.
We will eventually sign him I’m sure but it would be a horrible idea to rush into it before the deadline at minimum.

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
Personally I would not sign him for more than minimum. He's been out of the league for 3 years

I guess he can continue to play on a two-way this season, and to sign him with a contract that will start 2024/25.

I'm afraid that some other team will sign him for more than a minimum. He is worth a risk, based on what he is doing now!

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
Not a terrible player but not great either, no sense in locking him up when is he basically maybe just good enough to be a backup Center on a bad team, or a third string on a good one.
He has no value in the league, keep him on the deal he is on and see what happens.

He looks like a decent backup big man and he fits.

Hope they can get him on a cheap 3 year in the offseason

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
I would sign him forsure. A two year deal with a low salary. He's definitely got talent, but he still has a way to go

I think his 2 way will be converted to a standard contract after the trade deadline

Yep... A player who is on a 2-way contract can have his deal converted a one-year, minimum-salary contract by his team... But I want him for more than a year!:)

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
I'm not sure what the whole story is with him but he could be a very serviceable backup off the bench long term, based on what I've seen so far. He seems very coachable and seems to be making good plays

I guess you don't "see" it like others.

I would sign him to a contract like the one that Memphis gave Vince Williams. $3 million per year for 3 years. Well worth it, unlike the McDaniels contract which is like Yogi Stewart, but at least expiring cap fodder next season.

We don't have the means to do that until the offseason. We used MLE on Dennis and the BAE on McDaniels. Until then it is him on a two-way or the minimum. You could do a two year minimum with a non guarantee, then in the offseason sign for more/longer using capspace or exceptions.

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
I am not against him as third stringer but man it is saying something when you can't tell the difference between who is worse between Porter and Young.
He can shoot it a bit and pass it a bit but he offers such limited rim protection. He just isn't a true 7 footer and he is not fundamentally sound on defense. I would take a flyer on him for the shooting potential although shooting 28% from three is concerning but we do have Gradey Dick shooting 30%

While 100% true.
Another interpretation would be that he’s a super athlete centre who’s had his formative developmental years taken from him.
To me, he looks like a “toolsy” 24 year old who in another life was a top 8 pick.
Cost is super low, There’s something there worth trying to foster
here.

You also left out:
.358|.276
TS .478
4.3 fouls per 36
He's an interesting player and a depth big.
But let's not get carried away.

Re: Jontay Porter - Sign him!
3rd stringer at best right now.
Wouldn't even make the 15 man roster on a lot of teams.
But the Raps have one of the best development staffs in the league so hope they're able to turn him into a useful player.
