Yay, we're one of these teams.

Once the Raps are done with SA, they have all their 1sts after that, plus the 3 1sts from IND, plus the DET 2nd which is almost a 1st, plus whatever they get at this deadline. They're are also very cap flexible so they can take on contracts for even more picks if they want to go in that direction. It's now going to be a matter of hitting on some of these picks.

Teams, favored to win it all, usually don't have room to fit a 1st on their roster or under the luxury tax line.

Same can be said for the other way around. 11 Teams Control 75% of Superstar they wish to sign or trade for and does not need their crappy late first rounder lol. (NOT real stat)

The Pelicans, Jazz, and Thunder could all use a center like Poeltl. We would ship him West which fairs well for us.
Stockpiling picks is a good idea for us. There will be teams like the Hawks and the (last season) Raptors who chose to build that we could pick talent off of.
I'd guess the next team to blow it up will be the Bulls, Hawks, and the Warriors. I would take a sturdy ex all star vet that can be a starting caliber 3 and D player.
There's a benefit to having a playable star player, with leadership qualities, next to a bunch of under 25 guys. I don't think we're there as of now but a few seasons down the road after we've tanked.

There aren't 20 competitive teams in the NBA.

Nothing to be proud of. Moreso when you are trying to rebuild and on the verge of losing your best pick

Rebuilding teams have typically held all the picks, but there have also been a TON of star players traded for huge pick halls in recent years, starting with OKC.

The Jazz have Kessler as a traditional center type, but OKC and the Pels have the picks to slightly overpay for Poeltl.
This would make some sense at the deadline:
NOP - Poeltl, #9 (HOU)
TOR - JV, Dyson Daniels, Oladipo, Landale,
HOU - Bruce Brown, #17 (NOP)
Raptors get a big young defensive guard in Dyson Daniels and expirings, maybe keep JV on a 1+1 to have a center while we rebuild.
Houston drops down 8 picks but they have a ton of youth to develop and add a gritty wing on an expiring they can use this season and next or include in a trade if the right guy comes along. They probably want a backup center in the draft anyways so might even be the same guy.
Pelicans get an affordable center and stay just under the tax and move up 8 picks, but it costs them Dyson Daniels.

That's a garbage trade. Everyone gets a pick but us? We get Dyson Daniels? Lol?

This is relatively meaningless without weighting, I think. Team A with 6 picks in the range of 20-30 is pretty obviously worse than Team B with 3 picks in the 1-10 range.
Some weighting would be pretty subjective, like how much better is a 15th vs a 20th etc. But overall, quality > quantity.
All these picks are the result of rebuilding, so do with that what you will.

Nobody gets a pick. Houston moves down, Pelicans move up. Dyson Daniels is 20 and already a really good defender. He'll probably end up being a similar player to Bruce Brown in a few years as his offence improves.

Yeah giving up Poeltl and Brown who alone shoul net us (at least) 1 FRP each but we end up with old vets and Dyson Daniels? Why not just keep Poeltl and Brown?

The guy who averages 9/6/4 per 36!!! on 50TS% is worthy of Brown AND Poeltl?
