Heard JV is available. If you had to choose who would you go with.

Poeltl.

Younger, better defender and he's lower maintenance because he doesn't need offensive touches.

Poeltl and not particularly close.

Poeltl for 2 Reasons:

-Age - Poeltl is in his Prime and still can get better, JV is descending

- Matchups - Poeltl outplayed JV in his matchups in the last 2 years

The only thing that JV has over Poeltl is his 3pt shot.

Man I love both guys that’s tough.

Poeltl because he’s a better defender and doesn’t need the ball.

But JV is one of favs of all time.

Funny thing is in theory they are a nice complement to each other . Poeltl feels like a better fit with starting caliber players as his defense is better, but JV as a bench big would be disgustingly good.

Jacob, but I also remember jv time fondly, so I have no problems with him being here.

Yes, he's a free agent this summer. Sign him for the MLE for 4 years with no raises.

Unless they are planning on drafting Ware or Edey or Chomche to be the backup C.

Poeltl is a top 10 C of all time. I didn’t stutter.

Poeltl is definitely the better player at this stage of their careers.

However, I do think we should be moving Poeltl at the deadline and if not then, definitely during the summer. Right now is best though seeing as there are some teams that could use him now and have the expiring contracts to facilitate the deal that won't be available in the summer.

Really like the idea of acquiring Carter Jr and signing JV to an MLE style deal or even $30M/2yrs. If you draft Ware as well, that's a pretty good C lineup that you can work with going forward. If you don't draft Ware, you can keep Porter as your 3rd stringer.

This way, you secure a 2025 FRP via the Poeltl trade, two young guys and veteran to round out the position. Might even give him 3 years now that I think about it.

It's really close.

JV was definitely ahead of Poeltl offensively. He was a very good post-up player, a beast on the offensive boards, had a soft touch, and he was also a very solid shooter for a big. He could hit the mid-range shot and when he was open he could hit the 3 (despite a slow release). Also a very good free throw shooter.

Defensively, JV struggled on switches and a bit slow so he could be exploited by faster 3 point shooting teams.

Poetl is marginally better than JV around the basket as an offensive finisher, but has no shooting game whatsoever and sucks from the line.

Defensively, Poeltl is definitely more valuable than JV, he is excellent positionally, can recover well, can switch, has quick feet for a big, good anticipation, and is a solid shot blocker.

Just comparing players individually, Poeltl.

If NOP adds Daniels to “upgrade” then I’d rather have JV and Dyson. I think we can find a reasonable replacement at C within a couple years but Dyson can be our POA defender and developed in time to be a really good player with long term control who will probably have high trade value at a later date.

Jak, obviously, but if the team is trading Jak for value, getting a solid vet C like JV in return would be a good idea.

JV: Offensively
JP: Defensively

If I had to choose one, I would go with my more favourite, as Charles Barkley pronounces it: "Joenas Vala-chewing".

UPDATE: Excellent question BTW! RN this is a close poll.

I'd wager it's going to be near impossible to get a 2025 1st for Poeltl. Teams that might want an upgrade:

Bulls: owe '25 pick
Nets: have Claxton
Thunder: maybe? have Chet, might want more size
Suns: owe '25 pick
Pels: maybe? Already have JV
Mavs: owe '24 pick (can't trade '25)
Warriors: bad fit with Draymond

Who is the market for Poeltl? 20+ teams already have a C they can argue is equal to or better than Poeltl. The other teams either have no assets (Suns) or have a young C already (Wemby, Duren, Ayton).

JV makes more sense to me now, add a spacing C so we can see what the team can do with a C who can operate beyond 3 inches from the basket. He's older which means we can be done with him at the end of his contract, likely commands less money too. Replace him with a C you draft who can shoot the 3 so he's ready to come in when JV is headed out.

Jak would make some more sense if we were actually trying to win.
