I'll be the first to admit he's made some mind-boggling decisions since leading us to a championship, from losing Fred for nothing to the nightmare Poeltl trade. But that doesn't change the fact that he's still one of the best executives in the league.

IMO he did great with the OG trade and I'm content with the Siakam trade as well.

But just to put things into perspective...

If he just didn't trade a top-10 pick for Yak last season, we'd be in a way better position right now. That move really **** us. His other mistakes (like letting Fred walk or trading a FRP for Thad) have been relatively minor in comparison.

I still trust him over any replacement to right this ship as he actually knows how to identify talent in the draft.

We overhauled the entire staff and roster. Now time to build the next champ team. Mistakes in the past are there but cant dwell on them and time to move on. I trust he can do it again as he's one of the top execs in the league

Masai has done very well yes. His moves since the championship has also been less than ideal.

He thought Gasol and Ibaka would sign with us. That tells me he doesn't know his own players well. He thought relationships were enough to keep players but he thought wrong. This is a bigger fundamental issue IMO. So he missed out on getting assets back for those guys when they still had some value.

He didn't trade FVV, OG and Pascal early enough.

Unlike pre-championship his late round 1st and 2nd round picks have been busts (Gradey pending). Where are the 2nd round gems, where are the UDFA gems we used to find? The scouting department needs some shaking up.

While the moves since 2019 has been less than ideal, he's still a better GM than 75% of the league. That's why we keep him.

I’m not content with the Pascal trade, but I love the positivity you’re putting out LMR.

Ya Poeltl trade was a mistake, which even he owned up to. But no executive has a clean/flawless track record.
If he can successfully trade the vets for picks and prospects at the deadline, and tank the rest of the way to secure a top 6 pick in this years draft, a lot will be forgiven.

Lets see what he's able to get back for Bruce Brown.

This is a pretty pivotal week for Masai and Bobby. We are five games out of a play-in spot, which is not impossible with the team we have now. To me, the question becomes at the end of the trade deadline, are we making a run to be competitive, or following the path towards a rebuild?

To actually maintain a 6 seed the only way is to trade Poeltl. You watch that OKC game and with him fully back, this team suddenly can defend the paint. When he was out we were fighting an uphill battle against every team. We also have a ton of other veteran players that should be moved.

I am curious if Masai will live up to his own words and follow through on the trades he mentioned he would be willing to make.

there is no way he opts in on trades to be more competitve. right?

I have more faith in Masai to start this rebuilding process than any newcomer.

these last few years of blunder will be forgotten soon enough.

One of the best execs leading up to the Championship, which I will always be appreciative for. However, hes been one of the worst execs post the championship.

Now that he's finally used his common sense in needing to retool/rebuild the team, lets see how he does starting from scratch. He has had a lot of stupid mistakes that someone of his calibre should have seen like not investing in a backup PG for Fred, not having at least 2 good Cs on the team, etc.

I truly hope his roster building will go back to what made him great in the first place but I'm not sure, time will tell.

No thanks. He's been terrible since the 20-21 season.

For me I used to be a hardcore Masai supporter. I 100 percent believed in his ability to build and develop and draft. So yes I agree with your point on those picks.

But I think there’s acceptable concern out there that people don’t want these past few years from Masai to become an ongoing trend. That’s where he’s starting to lose trust. And if he continues to make mistakes at what point will we desperately need a replacement.

If his recent presser is anything to go by, he's taking the team in a new direction. He's admitted that the past few years were a mistake. His recent moves also show he's abandoned the silly 5x PF vision. He says he's committed to a proper rebuild and I'll take his word for it.

But if this next stretch is a flop as well, then it'll be time to move on.

Let's see what happens at trade deadline.....
