OT: Thoughts on 'sportingnews' vs the old 'nba.com'

Post#1 » by SaveTheHens » Fri Feb 23, 2024 12:53 pm

Anyone else think its been bushleague compared to the old site? I read the article about Vince in the HOF this morn, they're mentioning he made the Finals as a Net? Where's the senior writer to check over this stuff...
The bigger thing for me is the box scores don't work most the time, I use ESPN or sportsnet now. But even the overall quality of writing has gone down imo, and NBA.com never seemed to care about pushing betting, the new site has a high focus on that.

The only time I remember the old site being bushleague was one rushed article during halloween a long time back, where they put a picture of orange juice and mayo as some halloween spin about OJ mayo (literally seemed like the writer just pushed something out in 10 minutes because he forgot his deadline or something). A one off in all the years they were running, otherwise a very reliable website that'd be the first I'd go to for NBA news.

Thoughts?

I hate it. Every time that I'm trying to go to the actual nba.com site (for All-Star voting or anything else) and it takes me directly to The Sporting News site I get annoyed because it's like they're hijacking my choice.

It's awful. There was a long period of time where it was not functional if you were disallowing third party cookies.

I find often the game tickers are not up to date, box scores are not up to date.

I've given up and moved to ESPN.

Not a good look for the NBA brand to offload your primary online real estate to a third party.

Sporting news is just the international site. It’s nothing new as the redirect has happened for years.

Just go to www.nba.com/?55 and it will always take you to the real site no matter where you are.

Same, what’s with that? I always thought it was my browser or something. Good to know it isn’t just me, the box scores are never actually working, it’s absolutely bizarre.

It's the redirect site. I skip it and go to the NBA.com official site

Got the same issue, it just wasn't working properly The site designer probably made it work correctly on only a few browsers. Game tickers not working pissed me off.

I use tsn.ca now. Have to go through the hockey but it's not so bad.

Espn doesn't have the +- in their boxscore by default. I hate that. Always have to scroll and click.
